I Got A Micro-dermabrasion Facial Today

And my face is raw and so red! The esthetician told me there would be a "wee bit of redness and discomfort" for a day or so, but I'm in fucking agony! I look like I fell asleep in the sun. I can't even touch my face because it's so sore. I am supposed to go out to a movie with a friend tonight but there is no fucking way I am going out looking like this.

Why do I do this kinda shit to myself? Oh yeah, I know. I'm 46 years old and am under the delusion that if I go through such treatments I can look 25 again.

If you take mainstream drugs I suggest Ibuprofen or call them and tell them it hurts a lot more than they said and you want some codeine.

:hug: I'm sorry it turned out that way, Q. The two women I've known who had microdermabrasion reported similar reactions. Their faces stayed red and raw for about a week afterward. Keep your skin moisturized and soothed as much as you can, and it'll feel better soon. :pals:

There is a home microdermabrasion kit that Olay makes for their Regenerist line. I've used it at home once a week and have great results. Just go easy on your skin and don't over-scrub. It's cheaper and gentler than the one done in spas and in doctor's offices. :) I've been very pleased.

My daily regimen for the last 15 years has been as follows:

Clinique exfoliant face scrub
ROC Retinol treatment
Biotherm face moisteriser
Biotherm eye moisuriser

And I use a night cream by La Roche Posay from time to time.

I will definitely try the Olay Regenerist. If it can make me look half as good as you, I'd be pleased.

i suppose the other poster must have great genetics, i've tried it too (i've tried everything) and it is notable for having the most people rave about it and yet it does absolutely NOTHING, the only thing going for it is you can buy it cheaply at the wall

works for me. I have 3 age spots on the side of my face. One has almost completely disappeared (yay) & while the other 2 are still visible, they aren't as dark as they were before. I guess what works for some people doesn't work for others. :(

The retinol treatment I use is made specifically for use under moisturisers. But I never use alcohol based moisturisers (what's the point really?). Did you have acne as a teen? I never did and am paying for it now. I actually envy people with oily skin because it keeps their skin moist and young looking.

I have normal skin and I guess it's aging as skin is wont to age, but I'd a few more years as a hot looking guy before I wander off into the hinterland of old gay guys. It's really lonely out there..........

9. yeah the "micro" in "micro" dermabrasion is bullshit

it is a sales technique, they can keep selling these things every two weeks forever for the people they don't work for, because the people who don't have any redness also don't get any real improvement in the texture of their skin! it's just an emotional boost to them, like the old mud facials

for those of us who do see a significant improvement in texture, if the peel goes deep enough to give a good result then there is a serious down time including redness and break-outs and for me the downtime for the mini lunchtime peel is over a week -- the same as the downtime for a real peel that would give a result lasting many months instead of a few days

the only reason mini peels are marketed, in my humble opinion, is because the use of chemicals is less, so the doctor doesn't have to do it himself, he can have the 18 year old asst. or even the beauty salon do the work, nice work if you can get it, the only person who loses is the patient who is paying the bills and who goes thru a lot of crap to get not much result

nothing wrong w. vanity, vanity is another word for the search to improve oneself, what is wrong is for people to market an ineffective product and to lie about the side effects, like you're not gonna find out! --heh, reading further, at least you were honestly told it would take 6 days to recover, i was told i could go out the same night!

at a spa before and it felt really lovely afterward, but I didn't get my face burned.

I did however, get the results you described the first week I ever tried to use Pro Activ. I did, in effect, accidentally give myself an at home chemical peel, complete with puffy red (really really bad "sunburn" ) face, itchy to the point of needing to take Benedryl.

But when all that subsided in about a week and 1/2, boy did my face look fabulous! :toast:

Edit: I haven't tried the regenerist m-d, but I do have their little eye cream pads.

I have used the Mary Kay M-D kit x2/week and it feels lovely. I use the Pro Active, which I'm no longer overly sensitive to, every other day.

I'm currently using the Neutrogena M-D, with the battery powered buffer, but I'm not sure that I like it better than the Mary Kay. The little beads aren't as useful, IMO. I'll keep working with it and see, though, since I'm new to it.

I take Omega 3's for cardiac benefits (high cholesterol runs in my family- I've got it, but don't want the heavy duty stuff for it yet) and I have really good skin. People always ask me what I do. I give them a puzzled look and say, "wash it". :shrug:
