I need to get something with wi-fi. Beyond that, I'm flexible. Thanks!

1. My dear wakemewhenitsover!
My new Lenovo cost me about $600.00.

And it was certainly wireless ready...

I bought it because according to Consumer Reports, it came in second only to Apple for tech support and frequency of repair reliability...

I have been very happy with it!

:hi:

3. Thanks so much CalPeg!
Sounds like a hot tip. Have you heard anything about Acer? Costco sells a model for about $550, so I'm tempted...

So far, it's worked fine. They got a "bang for the buck" award from Wired magazine.

6. Check out
www.salescircular.com

This week's sales are basically over (which can mean that the best sale-items are already gone; Frys has a different sales cycle though), but there are a number of $400-500 laptops; some with instant savings. (Although sometimes there is a later-in-the-week delivery that includes sale items.)

Next week might not be as good, but if you can wait, the prices tend to repeat.

8. I'm saving up $2,000 for mine.......
Of course I'm going to get a fat PowerBook. But, if you don't go Mac, $1200 should get you a very decent Windows box.

10. Watch out for vista machines with only 512meg of ram.
Vista doesn't work too well with less than 1 gig of ram.

11. $800 seems to be a nimum quantity of money. But do look at the specs.
Most put in 1GB of RAM, for example, but it could be less.
