4. Double check the seating of the mouse's PS2 plug.
Sometimes the plug gets hung up on the case, and it doesn't seat properly.

Plus, check the pins on the PS2 plug. These are small and easily bent. (You can resurrect them once or twice sometimes.)

Also try a working mouse.

5. Here is a tool you can use
To figure out what kind of computer you have:

http://www.memoryx.net

Go to this web site (which sells memory) and click on the "check your computer" link

This will install a small app that will check the PC and tell you what it is.

(That is, if the PC is up and running already)...

7. Ok, that's a challenge
Edited on Wed Jun-13-07 07:40 PM by Xipe Totec
click on start->programs->accessories->system tools->System Information

It's been a while since I've touched Win95, I'm hoping that's where the tool is...

That should bring up a tool that shows the system specs.

We can go from there.

12. What he said

You can use the ALT key and arrows to move around, and the space bar to click on selections.

and then install it on the old one. ;)

I answered your post (tried) in Computer help etc. group

13. My guess is that your mouse is dead.
I've never seen a mouse that required a driver for basic functionality. Windows 95 included a generic mouse driver that should power any old two button mouse you can throw at it.

My first suggestion would be to install a known-good mouse.
