Here is why I thought last nights Sopranos finale WAS GREAT
David Chase's show has ALWAYS been about a slice of life, in this case a slice of New Jersey Mob life. Because life never has tidy endings, the series could not have one either.

And lets face it, the editing and direction of that last sequence was fantastic! The building of tension and the manipulation of the audience would have made Hitchcock jealous! NOTHING is left up to us, and never has been with this series. Much in the way that life often leaves us wondering, Chase doesn't provide us with all the answers, nor has he ever left anything for us to imagine. We simply have to accept that we will not know what happens to these people, as if we moved to the across the world all of a sudden and lost track of old friends.

The ending to me symbolized the audience being whacked. Bobby earlier in the season talked about how they think it'll be when you die, he says do you think you hear it? Well, Chase played off that and killed the audience by making it look like that.

The Sopranos live on, but they lose a family member in the audience.

2. All things considered had a man talking about the ending. He brought
up some things I have been thinking about.

Movie criticism 101: pay attention to the music. It is what they call, text illustration. The crying game started of with the song, "To Know Him is to love him." It ended with "Stand By Your Man." Love, friendship, and loyalty was what the movie was about. What were they saying with the music in the last two episodes of The Sopranos?

Go back and watch the last two episodes. It tells you all you need to know. Listen to the music and pay attention to details in the background. Watch what is on TV, listen to the dialog. Watch the background. Good film makers give clues.

Remember the statues in the doctor's office. They gave clues.

BTW, the Smurfs were real good at using music to set the mood and to advance the story for those who may be familiar with that piece of music.

Anyway, the ending told me that things will continue. Their lives will go on. It won't be perfect, it will be normal for their family. Let it be, let it go. It is the end.

3. As I digest it and have watched for the second time
I absolutely loved the ending. I have ended it my way, and I like that.

Bravo to David Chase!

4. This might have been posted before
but I read another analogy of the ending...
They wanted the audience to feel what Tony feels everyday....

The insecurity, not knowing what is going to happen next....
being suspicious of everyone and everything.... trying to read the room and all the people in said room...

Lets face it. How many of us were waiting for something to happen to
Meadow while she was trying to park the car???
Looked at all the people who walked into the restaurant
and wondered which one was going to shoot Tony....

things like that.......
Just putting it out there!!

5. It means so many different things. But if Tony were watching a show like this
he would not be as unprepared for its conclusion as we viewers were. Tony the survivor.
