When will my baby cats like me?
We have new kittens at my place; they will be four weeks old this coming Wednesday. So far, they still do not like to be picked up at all. I am very nice to them, but they will only allow petting at this point, no holding, no picking up for a snuggle. Is this normal behavior for kittens? I haven't had any in ages, so I don't know. Our vet said they would start to allow handling at around four weeks, but--but--they're almost that now and it seems that they still don't like that at all.

Cat people of the Lounge, chime in, please.

1. Four weeks is still pretty young....
...give it a few more weeks to let them accept you as another cat. From about 6 to 8 weeks, they'll start to be more curious about you, and will calm down - just - a little. Right now, they're in hyper-drive.

2. They have their feet under them and a big world to explore.
Hyper-drive indeed.

6. But they seemed so advanced to me.
One opened his eyes at four days. They all had their eyes open within one week. But no go on the picking up. They just aren't interested.

3. maybe lay your hand with them?
like next to them while they're resting so they'll know people's hands aren't just scary things that lift them up ... maybe..
I wish I was there to help with them! :loveya:

Hi,
I have had cats all my life and have never had one that likes to be picked up, they have tolerated it, but soon want to be out of my hands. They will come to you soon. Mine is pretty standoffish, but will snuggle with me when I am on the couch and sleeps with me. Give it some time, I am sure they will be affectionate and great pets!

peace

5. Just pet them - gently scratch the tops of their heads, under their chins, stroke their backs

8. First they have to figure out what is them and what is you.

That takes a few weeks. :)

10. That's very young.
My babies didn't like to be picked up until they were 3 to 4 months. They just have way too much energy at this point. So, just pet and scrath them so that they get used to it. They'll come around.
