My cubicle neighbor is obsessed with food
She talks about food all the time – with reverence.

Today, I brought my lunch to my desk, and she said (over the cubicle wall)

“Smells like lunch.”

It drives me insane.

1. She's a chowhound. Perhaps she should take up smoking:

2. Not necessarily. Sometimes people who are obsessive about food....
are the very people who aren't eating any.

7. She suffers from what we call "displacement issues."
Of course it is all rooted in this woman's insecurity. Childhood disappointments, problems of self-image, fears and uncertainties concerning the state of the world, apprehensions about her position at work, and general day-to-day anxieties have all led this woman into a psychological dislocation that can only be ameliorated by food - and then only temporarily. No, this woman is not to be hated, but pitied. I myself became part of the problem when I labelled her a chowhound and prescribed cigarettes. She needs love - the deep, unconditional love only a cat can offer.

9. I hate to break this to you...
but a cat's love is seldom unconditional. :P

3. Maybe she's a foodie...
I've been known to talk about food obsessively, at times. I love food, and I love cooking. Maybe she's a frustrated cook who hasn't worked up the courage to dump it all for culinary school, oui?

6. Tell her to mind her own business, and then mind your own
My .02. You obviously have a judgment to make towards her, jeez.

8. There was someone who worked in the cube outside my office for a time...
She was quite nice, but ate chips and other junk food all day long. The sound of her crunching for hours on end drove me nuts.
