DUers--help ASAP. Someone is using my username and it isn't me.
I think you all know me by now--I don't post monosllabic nonsense. They've posted in GD and the Women's Forum--I wasn't even home at the time.

My son has NO access to my computer, either, and wouldn't do this anyway.

It's not me, and I'm scared. I've alerted and contacted the Admins already, but i'm shaking.

Help.

3. How'd they get it?
Did you go to a site that phishes info from your computer? (I hate cookies and they're the easiest to get)

Personal friend who isn't one?

I agree, change the p/w first.

4. and be careful that you are actually on DU
I tried to log onto myspace and accidentally typed "myslace" -note the "L". The website was all to ready to take my password. I didnt log on, but several of these password clones look almost like the real thing.

22. How creepy.
None of those sound AT ALL like you. They are in no way your posting style.

Excellent advice about changing the password. Definitely get a response from Skinner or one of the other admin, because I am certain they can investigate and figure out who did it.

Good luck.

11. I looked at the posts you listed....it certainly sounds like some
PIMPLY FACED, PRE-PUBESCENT FUCKER WHO HANGS OUT AT MOMMY AND DADDY'S COMPUTER... ( hint, hint )

Changing your password is recommended ( these hacker-fucks have absolutely NO life ) but I'm afraid it may take more than one password change until you identify just where they phished your password from. I absolutely HATE these people, and they need to frigging die!

Someone phished my MySpace password a month ago and posted bulletins for free Playstation 3 consoles. I have had their filthy accounts NUKED

12. Do you only post on DU from one computer?
Edited on Tue May-29-07 05:43 PM by Lex
Or have you logged on DU from computers at work or somewhere else?

Seems like someone either has gotten on your computer where you were already logged in, or somehow obtained your password.

18. Good, I think that means that your work computer hasn't memorized
your password because you've never logged in to DU from that computer.

So either someone logged in from your home computer (where your password was saved already) or someone obtained your password AND screenname and logged in from another computer elsewhere.

15. you're NOT making lasagna for me tonight?
So the PM I received from you is NOT real and you're NOT making lasagna for me tonight? Dagnabbit!

On a serious note: the posts seem somewhat innocuous and... well, juvenile. So if nothing else, I think we can assume that whoever is doing this isn't forcing a vendetta. But you did the safe thing and alerted the mods. My money's on a fifteen year old somewhere whose political affiliation is to the left of Dude and to the right of Blunt...

20. Hmmm, well you changed your password
and i'd clean my cookies and cache, or even use something like CC Cleaner http://ccleaner.com/
http://www.download-ccleaner.com/

you'll have to log back on to things and it will wipe your cookies and the history, etc.

It's what I'd do.

especially if you are freaked that someone maybe remotely accessing or something from you.

Does anyone else have access to your computer, or used it even briefly and had enough time to put a keylogger or something on it?

21. Good advice...
It could be that someone's just guessed your password; but I think it's more likely that someone's hacked your 'puter.

You might want to check bank accounts, etc, to make sure they haven't gone farther than DU.

I'm so sorry!

24. That happened to me once, when my 5 y/o got ahold of my laptop
I was swiftly alerted by a cell phone call from another DUer, and I caught the little brat red handed.

Sounds like you've got something a bit less amusing going on, but here's hoping it's as easily resolved.
