3. Way before Aleve ever hit the market
my doctor prescribed Anaprox for cramps....they are the same drug and it was the only thing that ever helped my cramps. According to the doc who gave it to me it blocks prostaglandins which are the main cause of cramps.

Hope you feel better.

5. I eat Aleve like Skittles.
Edited on Tue May-29-07 01:49 PM by libnnc
It's the only only thing that has ever worked for me.

Edit to add you have to be sure to take it a day or two in advance of your period starting to get the jump on the prostaglandins

6. Thanks for adding that....
I forgot that part. I had a hysterectomy 15 years ago and it was a relief to not deal with this crap every month.

I never had a period I didn't have severe cramps.

4. They get worse
I started getting very bad cramps in my late 40s and the gyno said, "Oh, that's normal at your age." I'm looking forward to menopause.

9. Because night sweats and hot flashes are soooo fun! Not too mention sweeping mood swings and a
whole lot more unpleasantness which occurs daily not just monthly. Menopause sucks!

8. Try a hot tottie. My da used to make 'em for me
when my cramps were bad. Mostly, they made me sleepy, but that was better than being awake and in pain.

Or try depo-provera, the period killer. Worked for me!!

Sorry you're in pain. My first secretary used to say "If men had cramps, there'd be a cure or a telethon!"

10. Booze, Chocolate, Aleve
AbFab/French & Saunders or Cagney & Lacey DVD on the tee vee...and me on the couch.

That's my remedy. (just be careful w/the booze and Aleve...might not make your liver too happy)

11. I feel your pain.
Just got out of foot surgery, and the anesthetic didn't take all the way on one foot. Hope your cramps get better soon-because I'll bet you feel about bad as I do.

12. I have zero cramps these days!
http://www.womenshealthmatters.ca/centres/sex/birthcontrol/mirena.html

This might not be ideal for you (they prefer to give it to people with a child already- cervix is open more, but I know childless women with one) and if you're not with any men these days, birth control isn't an issue, but it's also prescribed for those with endometriosis and bad cramps. It's been awesome for me (and without the migraines and reduced libido the pill gave me). My cramps are zero and my periods are very light.
