tabby cat update
The reason I asked if there is a breed associated with tabbies is because of my personal experience. Over the last 30 years, I've always had atleast one cat & have lived in rural setings. As the cats have come & gone over the years, I have noticed that tabbies are the best hunters. My semi retired orange striper, "Rusty", was a terrific gopher getter. In his youth he would even tackle jack rabbits...... I understand that kittens learn hunting skills from their mother, so I always adopt kitties from a country setting....... I guess I'll just wait until I run into some kids with "free kitties" out in front of the local feed store.

1. any young cat will be a hunter
if it's allowed to become one. Young pound cats, not necessarily even kittens, will fill the bill. If you need barn cats, the shelter is still the best bet.

But then free kittens outside the feed store will do nicely too.

2. While it is true that all cats are natural predators, my orange tabby
does seem to be better at it than the others - snakes seem to be his specialty. The other cats don't really go outside much, but he is utterly miserable if he doesn't get some garden time.
