Carb Withdrawal
Someone please tell me I'm not dying. I started low-carbing yesterday. By the afternoon I had the headache from hell. Today My head hurts, I'm nauseous, I ache, I feel like crying, I'm tired and generally feel like I've been hit by a truck.

I know if I can get through the first week it gets easier. If the first week doesn't kill me. :puke:

1. Add some more dairy
it's allowed on low carb diets but it has enough carbs to help ease that up.

4. Low carb or no carb?
Your brain needs carbs for energy. If you're on a no-carb (or close) you may want to consider increasing the amt of carbs by a little bit until you adjust.

5. I lost 60 lbs (where they came from, I'll never know) with a low carb
diet. And have been stable at my present weight for months.

It gets so much easier. Maybe try having stuff on hand that you can eat as much as you want to that doesn't mess with the diet. (I chomped on carrots and other raw veggies so I never really felt deprived of anything.)

Good luck, Spacemom. I hope you feel better!

8. Thank You!
It's really important that I stick with this. I'm diabetic and it seems like nothing is bringing my sugars down. I hoping the low-carb will help to bring them down, plus, if I can lose some weight that will help too.

9. It will pass
Try drinking Lemonade. But try and use Stevia not the fake stuff.

You could pick it up at Trader Joe's. A little bit goes a long way.

10. You need to be careful. I would suggest talking to your doctor.
Trying to change your weight with only altering your diet is bad. My mom thought eating less would cut the pounds. It only made her so tired she couldn't get out of bed. She ended up putting on weight and has given up. She refuses to do anything that doesn't involve sitting in front of her computer now. I will not be surprised if she dies at 54. She is 54.

Eating better and exercise is key.

12. Are you doing the Fat Flush Program?
yes, it gets easier. You're de-toxing, babe. Drink more water, helps to flush out your system. I also use lavender essential oil on my temples when I have a really bad headache and I don't want to necessarily take anything (ie. Advil w/ lots of chemicals) for it. Hang in there, you can do it. :yourock:

14. Water!
I've been drinking so much water I feel like I'm gonna float away. I'll have to try the lavender oil, these headaches have been really intense.

Thanks for the support!

15. I hear ya, I'm trying to drink about 2 gallons of water a day.
it's actually not that hard, it's just a matter of being close to the bathroom. :D

I like to use cran-water. I fill a nalgene bottle (it holds 32 oz) with 28 oz of water and fill the last 4 oz with pure cranberry juice. Make sure you don't use the sweetened shit. I get mine at Trader Joes. Then I try to drink at least 4 of them throughout the day. Cranberry water is a great way to flush out the system and also get rid of cellulite! :hi:

16. Low carb diets are not for everyone.
Your body will adjust and not feel so crappy after a few days, but please remember this type of diet is not suitable for everyone.

19. you NEED carbs
just restrict em to the morning, for breakfast and an early snack. lunch, even. just be awake and don't be a slug for the rest of the day and your body will burn it off on its own.

21. Yeah, your brain LIVES on carbs.
And cutting them out really restricts your intake of other essential nutrients.
ANY DIET that makes you feel that bad is BAD FOR YOU.
This carb phenomenon pisses me off. You don't lose any more weight in the long run, it's BAD for you, and often causes more health problems (cholesterol, fat, etc)
I mean, for god sake, the one my Dad went on told him to eat no more than 25g of carbs a day. you NEED like, 120g/day. For your BRAIN. BRAIN. Center of the working of your BODY.
BRAIN.

20. Maybe it's because your brain is starving.
Edited on Mon May-28-07 12:38 AM by GirlinContempt
it gets easier when your brain starts dying off and stops noticing how hungry it is for sugars. So, good luck killing your brain!

22. Ok, to be more serious
Edited on Mon May-28-07 01:02 AM by GirlinContempt
and less sarcastic, do some reading. PLEASE. About how many carbs you NEED, according to reliable dietitians and scientists. And where you can get some of the things found in carb based food. And how to avoid muscle damage. de Calcification. Dehydration. Depression. And all the other things associated with 'low carb' dieting. It's totally irresponsible and unfair to YOURSELF to just cut carbs or go low carb unless you know. And you should not be feeling like that. Really, you shouldn't. There is NO evidence that carbs make you crave carbs or anything of the sort. You crave them because your body NEEDS a certain amount, and you need to make sure you get that. It can be really, really bad for you.
