Beantown Duers, I have a question on getting to the Cape
How long would it take to drive from Logan airport to South Dennis on the Cape on a Friday evening if we left ~4 PM? Would it save a lot of time to leave a couple of hours earlier?

1. OMG! "forever" is the answer.
Either leave way earlier (like, 10 am) or wait until 9 pm. Or 5 am on Saturday.

Unless you like sitting in traffic.

And if you're leaving the Cape on a Sunday, either go at 6 am, or you might as well wait until 9 pm.

3. Take a ferry to P-Town and walk the rest of the way
You're not getting over the Bourne in less than 3 hours

4. Any suggestions on somewhere else to go for a family weekend
Our son is in Boston and our daughter has college orientation on 7/16-17. We were planning on coming up for the weekend and doing something as a family. We are arriving Friday late afternoon and I need to fly home on Sunday night.

5. 4pm Friday is the zone of death
Everyone from NH and Maine is driving down the Cape at those hours, it's nuts.

Why not book a whale watch somewhere on the Northshore like Gloucester or Rockport?

6. What about heading to the Berkshires? Adirondacks, NH?
Doesn't have to be the beach. Just looking for someplace to be together as a family (21YO vegan, 18YO vegetarian, mom and dad)

7. I hear the Berkshires are nice
but I'm far from the best tour-guide around here.

11. Western MA/Berkshires are nice
Williamstown, Great Barrington, Northampton, Amherst, etc. (the latter two are in the Pioneer Valley). A drive on Rt 2 from Greenfield to Williamstown is beautiful this time of the year. :)

8. The Cape is just a tourist trap on a glorified sandbar.
Hell, just visit South Boston and eat all day. You'll thank me later. :)

9. Been to Boston many times.
Our son's been up there for 4 years and we visit him regularly.
Salem looks like it could be fun. Touristy but someplace none of us has been before.

12. Salem is decent
It's certainly best around Halloween time, and I love that the Police cars have a witch on a broom stencil on their doors. I'd still plan a trip on the Northshore to include more than one town. Rockport is like Salem only without the 'witchy' theme, and if you stop by Gloucester and ask any of the locals how to get to the main entryway into the harbor it's neat to see all the ships traveling in and out.

13. Salem and Marblehead
Just got back from there. Marblehead is on the water and beautiful. Rockport, a little farther north up the shoreline, is pretty too.

15. I looked for apartments in Rockport
There's old houses up there, and while I don't need a lot of space, some of those places were just tiny! Anthing bigger cost an ARRRm and a leg *I'm in a pirate mood* I settled in a nice little town further up the coast, and love it. I'm 2 blocks from the water, and there's Anti-War protests just about every Sunday at the main town circle/traffic square, and lots of lovely little stores.

14. Even YEARS ago, that drive took forever.
Especially on a Friday during tourist season.
