1. Overreaching - cute in parts - got a little sick of Depp doing
his Keith Richards routine - Keith does it better.

2. If a movie seems like it's never going to end, then something is very wrong there
There were parts that seemed to drag on forever, and parts that they just threw in there in an attempt to be funny....most of those failed.

3. Exactly.
POTC 3 was full of bad ideas stretched to unbearable length and good ideas executed poorly.

It was also so hard to follow that I gave up and just waited for the next loud action set-piece to hold my attention.

4. You are quite right....that is exactly what I was looking for
I mean, when you said that it was hard to follow.....I had trouble with that, too. There were scenes where I didn't know what the hell was happening. One person got double-crossed by someone else, but that person got double double crossed by someone else and before I knew it my head was spinning ( who's zooming who, here? )Anyway, there were good things about it, but they definitely focused too much on the action sequences and not enough on the furthering of character development.

7. There was some applause at the end, but it was nothing spectacular
You may want to draw your own conclusions if you choose to see it, but don't expect too much

8. my daughters are huge fans and we are going today
My 19-year-old daughter already saw it at a pre-release screening. She loved it and says she didn't understand the criticisms that it was confusing. (Keep in mind that she can name every character in both the first two movies and recite much of the dialog verbatim, not to mention singing the soundtrack.) But she says she didn't find it confusing and thought it was the best #3 of a trilogy she'd seen since Lord of the Rings.

I thought #2 was a big drop off from #1 myself. I'll find out about #3 this afternoon.

9. Saw it last night
Pretty good, but not as good as #1. Thought that there were some interesting parallels in the beginning with the East India Company cracking down on "pirates and anyone who provided material support to pirates", and infringing on the right of assembly, suspending habeas corpus, etc. I asked my husband if it was "Pirates of Guantanamo Bay".
