Today I got on my balance beam scale....
You know, the kind the doctors have...

There's no kidding around with this thing...

It always tells the truth!

And I needed to know just how much weight I'd put on during my vacation...:scared:

Soooo.......

Big surprise!

Only five pounds heavier than when I left!

:woohoo: :woohoo:

4. My dear Miss Marmelstein!
Got back yesterday! Here's a link to my thread last night:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=105&topic_id=6547343

It is good to be home, isn't it?

I could have sworn that I gained more than five pounds!

I still feel awfully bloated, and my belly......well, the less said about that, the better.......

Great to see you tonight!

5. Welcome home, California Peggy...
I love going to Ireland for vacation, but I'm always glad to get back home and sleep in my own bed.

Hope the jet lag's not too bad. It always kills me coming back for about 3-4 days. Going over not's too bad, if I get a good night's sleep the first day, I'm usually fine.

Can't wait to see your pictures from Prague and the rest of your destinations.

7. Re: your weight. I know how you feel, whenever I come back
from the "ould country", I avoid the scale like the plague for about 2 weeks.

I swear between having a "cuppa tea" everywhere you go, which usually involves sandwiches, cakes, biscuits (cookies) and someone offering you a "half un" aka a shot of some sort of alcohol, I usually gain between 5-10 lbs everytime.

The only time I didn't was two years this very week. I developed a kidney infection while I was in Ireland and I literally couldn't eat for the last 7 days I was there. I survived on drinking regular Coke, which was the only thing that would stay down. It wasn't a pleasant experience.

In fact when Mr. Wonderful and I arrived at ORD on 5-27-05, one of our very dear friends picked us up and when Patrick took one look at me outside the international arrivals hall, his first words to me were: "You look godawful"..

14. Peg, come on. Stop obsessing about details, would you? Five pounds is statistically
meaningless. Even if you only weigh 100 pounds, that's a FIVE PERCENT variation, which is well within the margin of error of most scales, no matter if your scale is so damn accurate.

It's only five pounds. Don't worry about it, OK?

My hands are swelling up. I gotta go.

16. My hands will be fine, but you have to tell me about the FOOD. What culinary delights
did you find on your trip?

According to a book I just finished reading, "meals are life," and I agree with that statement. So tell me abut the juicy bits.

17. We had a lot of very good, but salty, food...
I agree that "meals are life!"

Lots of cream soups.......

Multi-course dinners, each course small.....

Potato soup that was not at all what I expected...not creamy or white!

Goulash that was wonderful!

I can't really remember too many details....but everything was delicious!

Well worth my lousy five pounds!

18. the scale at my gym lied to me
It actually says I am four pounds heavier than the doctors office scale does. So If course I don trust it LOL. It must be a plot by the gym to keep us going there.

Scales are notoriously hard to keep accurate!

Except for the balance beam ones.....

I'm sure they did it on purpose, just to keep you coming!

I've gained 6 in the last month. Considering where you were that's pretty good. Weight usually flunctuates within that range so I think you'll be back down in no time.
