Want to be the first folks to wish Radio Lady a happy birthday? Here's your chance... (MORE)
I don't expect to be able to read your replies until we get to Scotland, but my birthday is May 31st and I'll be 68 years old.

Thank you in advance for everything this site has offered since I joined in 2004.

You are all wonderful folks with great zest and opinions, plus pictures, comfort, and other unspeakably joyful and profound written and spoken opinions and ideas.

I treasure all of you!

From London with love,

Radio Lady

3. Hi Katina... Thanks for your post! I do appreciate it!
The computer wizard (my husband) has given me another free hour! He decided to take a walk in the beautiful sunshine. London had virtually no rain in the month of April, and May has seen only one brief shower here. Good for the vacationers, but not good for the plants and humans.

NICE TO MEET-CHU ON THE DU!

5. OVC-O, you're a gem for chiming in! Jolly good thoughts! We'll be having a draft beer in just
about an hour.

We went to the National Portrait Gallery here today.

Fascinating museum -- most of it free!

Have you ever been to London? It looks as if the whole world is here today! So many people and a polyglot of languages.

Loads of love and thanks again from ----------> Radio Lady in London-town

8. The NPG sounds interesting.
After googling, I've found they have an online site, but it's not the same as being there! It looks positively amazing.

Unfortunately I've not been across the pond. For now, it's just a dream of mine. Until then, I rely on people like yourself who keep me filled in.

Enjoy your time there RL!

Will you be posting pic's when you get back?

10. Absolutely will post pictures... look for them the first week of June. Here's the website for NPG:
It is a fascinating place -- we stayed there for about three hours. So many Britons that were pictures there... and I didn't even study English history!

Regrettably, they did not allow ANY photography, so the pictures are at the site:

6. Thank you, WH! {{Radio Lady curtsies; she seems well in the manner -- or is it manor -- born}}
Whilst I sip a cappucino, I wish you a very happy Memorial Day weekend!

The big TV disappointment: The only US news we get here is on Fox International TV. (PUKE goes here...)

We had CNN in both Paris and Brussels.

"May the good news be yours..."

Favorite sign-off of some long forgotten anchor person.

9. Jolly good fun, CWYDRO... and I wish you a very happy weekend, whatever you plan to do!
We're off to Edinborough, or Edinburgh, or Edinburg, or however you spell it.

Regrettably, we will be going to LUTON by train, then to PETERBOROUGH by bus (train tracks being repaired next Sunday), then on to Edin... whatever.

Travel time is estimated as 10 AM to 5 PM. We thought the train would be nice, but didn't expect the bus interlude.

Wish us well shlepping the luggage up and down the steps and in and out of trains and busses.
We've had to dump some of the lovely shampoos and conditioners we got in Paris and Brussels. Liquids and gels weigh a ton, and you can't carry them on planes anymore.

Anyway, we'll try to carry on...

Pictures later...

Love and stuff from London.

Next to New York, this is about the busiest place I've ever been.

My dad was born and raised there (I'm first generation; nothing but British blood in my veins). London is a great city.

21. Wonderful that you can trace your real roots! Those of us who are of
Eastern European and Russian heritage... most everything stops with grandparents, because they left because of the rise of the Nazis or oppression by the Tzars.

I have a shorter pedigree than most of the pedigreed dogs I have owned!

11. Here's one of my favorite pictures at the National Portrait Gallery:
Can't hyperlink the image successfully, but it's here.

The baby Charles II with a brown and white spaniel held by his ear -- it's just adorable. Especially for those of you who love Cavalier King Charles spaniels as we do.

19. Seattle Girl, you're super! Update from Edinburgh, Scotland...
where they had an "appallingly wet" Bank Holiday weekend. Set some records for rain.

Somehow, reminds me of Seattle and Portland.

Thanks for the toasts, kiddo!

Love,

25. Why, thank you very much, Gizmonic. Today 6/2/07, we are back in the U.S.
and my birthday is over, but you've added a lilt to the end of the month and the beginning of my 69th (hmmmmmmmmm) year.

Nice to meet-chu you on the DU, and I do appreciate the kind compliment!

In peace,

Radio Lady in Oregon (having surveyed and survived Paris, Brussels, London and Edinburgh since May 11th....)

24. Happy Birthday, Radio Lady!
Edinburgh is a wonderful town. We were there about 2 years ago. Here are some dining suggestions in case you can't find an Olive Garden :sarcasm: The Mussel Inn over near Prince's street has fabulous Mussels by the kilo. They also have great food at World's End about 1/3 of the way down the Mile from the castle. Give the Haggis a try. I had it a couple of times and thought it was great.

27. Hi, Lurker. They served haggis at the Caledonian Hilton where we spent the last two days of...
Edited on Sat Jun-02-07 04:05 PM by Radio_Lady
our vacation. They also had blood pudding (very black and very odd).

I had a bit of both. Nothing to write home about... the haggis tasted like chopped liver. I passed up the black pudding. Neither of us eats mussels.

Best thing we ate were the hot scones and wonderful shortbread. Yogurt was also delicious, and we also had an amazing goat cheese with vinegared red peppers on a grainy bread with a little salad from a sandwich shop on one of the side streets where it meets Queen's Street.

Scotland was amazing. It's our third visit and I hope we get back there again before the end of our time...

Thank you for your message.

In peace, back at home with stacks of stuff to catch up on.
