(777) 777-7777
Has anybody else had this number show up on their caller ID? I have read that it could be a telemarketer or even somebody using a prepaid calling card. I was just wondering if anybody knew for sure. I was sitting here at my computer when I got that call at 11:55 pm. I answered and nobody said a thing. It took 50 seconds before the dial tone came on.

1. (999) 999-9999
is the one I got so I googled it the first time. It's coming from someone using a Caller ID spoofing service.

I read that telemarketers, creditors & Blockbuster are using it. Since I don't have a creditor & I don't use Blockbuster, I'm sure it's a telemarketer. So I don't answer the phone when they call. They never leave a message either.

That's strange for you to get a call like that this late though.

2. Go to switchboard.com
and click the Search By Phone tab. (I did it, and the result was odd, to say the least, However, won't post the results here, since the result may be the name/address of private individual and it's against the DU Rules to post even publicly-available private information.) :hi:

4. Thanks you guys
I tried both of those websites and came up with two different things. switchboard.com was the strangest of the two. Very creepy! The other one showed a business that I don't even do business with. We are on the no call list and that has worked very well for us during the past few years. It does seem odd that a call would come in this late from a telemarketer or business. And how come there are two different listings for the same number?

5. Caller ID spoofing service
There are two different listings for the same number because they are both using that service. Multiple businesses are using them & they all show the same number. That's what they are paying for when they subscribe to the service.

6. What is a spoofing service?
Can an individual use a spoofing service too or is it just for businesses?

7. Spoofing service
hides their real number. Kind of like when you block your number by using *67 before calling. Or forward your calls to another number.

From what I have read, spoofing services are not available for individuals, only businesses.

8. Thanks
It kind of sucks that businesses can get around the do not call lists by buying spoofing service numbers. Especially when they call so late. I thought they weren't supposed to call after 8:00 pm. Then when I answered they didn't even say anything. The nerve! :grr:

9. Yeah, calling so late is strange.
I think it sucks that they get around the do not call lists too.

Like I said above, (999)999-9999 is the one that calls me. About 6 times now in the past two months.

Since your call was so late, maybe it wasn't a business? It might have been a computer generated call?

10. But aren't computer generated calls
used by businesses? Maybe it was some kind of a computer generated call glitch? I'm not going to be happy if it happens late like this again. It's so unnerving to get calls late at night.

11. Yes, they are
used by businesses too. But I was thinking of the late hour & businesses usually don't call then. It could have been a glitch.

I hate getting those late night calls too. I always think it's bad news. :scared:

16. Nope
I have heard that sometimes if somebody calls using a prepaid calling card that number could come up. Do you know if there is any truth to that? The reason this is freaking me out a little is that my daughter's ex psycho boyfriend/stalker used to call at all hours of the day and night. He would use different numbers including business numbers. So when I got that late call and nobody said anything when I answered I got that sick feeling that it might be him. It's been about a year since we have gotten any weird calls that I thought might have been him. My daughter moved out of the house about 2 1/2 years ago and I don't think he would have any way of finding out where she is living. At least I hope not.

21. Did you find out what it was?
We got a (111) 111-1111. It turned out to be my son's bank. It's so stupid that a business like a bank would call incognito like that. I have a feeling this type of thing is only going to get worse. And it makes me mad that we're on the 'do not call' list and they can get away with this crap. There's too many nutjobs out there and now we have to sift through these new telemarketing practices to weed out the pests from the wackos. :banghead:
