How cool! I just found my old police scanner!
And it was easy to put the Dallas freqs in- I haven't listened to the cops talking for years. It's kinda cool, keeping up with what's going on out in the 'hood.

I AM kinda surprised they still use unencrypted transmissions- many cop shops have switched to freqs that civilians can't tap into.

1. Cool - my mom used to listen to one all the time
In little ol' El Dorado, Kansas. Once she heard the cops saying my license plate number and freaked out. I had stopped at Quik Trip for gas on my way to or from my friend's house. I hadn't done anything wrong! When I got home she interrogated me, and then we laughed about it and decided they just thought I was cute and wanted to know my name!

2. I love scanners
I've always had one or two wherever I've live; I've got a Bearcat Trunked Scanner that I turn on just about every day..

3. Mine is a rather unique old beastie
It's an old Realistic (Radio Shack) Pro-34. It's about the size of an old-style walkie talkie. It's fully programmable and can store 200 freqs. It uses rechargeable batteries and a plug-in transformer.

It has a unique characteristic- although by law cellular and some government bands are left off all scanners, someone discovered this particular model can be easily modified to receive the entire banned bands. Even after all these years, it's a desirable find by a lot of people out there.
