"Gotta take this!"
I've mentioned several times tha I believe this to be the catchphrase of the '00s. It's what a cell-phone addict always says in his/her response to his/her obnoxious ringtone going off. The $24.00 question is, WHY?? How can EVERY call be THAT important?? :grr:

2. Well, the answer is they're usually not
It's obvious because as soon as they get on the damn thing, they're saying, "Oh, where are you? Yeah, I'm with danagsk8. No, we're not doing anything... what about you? Oh, really? What did he say then? You're kidding?....."

I was in a restaurant (actually it was a coffee shop, come to think of it  ) a couple of months ago with a friend who did that - "Oh, I have to take this!" - and it was some lame, unimportant thing. I gave her enough time to say she had to go and when she didn't, I picked up my stuff and left her there.

She's still pissed. :P

3. I fucking hate cellular telephones.
It was bad enough when they were just car phones. I have one of those cheap, pre-paid models I use to call a tow truck, but that is it. I just don't want to be available constantly. Yeah, I know you can turn them off, but there seems to be a societal expectation that the reason to have one is to be available constantly. I see people at the grocery store on them getting instructions presumably from their spouses about what to buy. Make a fucking list, retard! It is like fax machines. If it is not urgent, put the damn thing in the mail so it will actually be readable. "You're a lawyer and you don't have a pager or a cellular telephone? How can you function that way?!" Lincoln did. And what about all these children with cellular telephones that do shit I have never even heard of? I would never allow that if I was a parent or as a teacher. First it is not healthy for the kid to have the parents keep that close of a watch on them. Second, go outside and play or ride your bike or climb a tree. Since when do children need expensive and sphisticated telecommunication devices?

4. Yeah, it annoys me too.
I don't have a cell phone, but my partner does. However, she will let it go to message if we are in the middle of a conversation or a movie. Only time she answers then is if her mother is calling, which often results in long conversations or getting on the internet and helping her with something she can't figure out.

Sad story, but her mom's husband is very emotionally abusive, and usually she is doing something that he demands be done RIGHT NOW. So, I don't blame my mate for wanting to take all calls from her mother.

But yes, I agree it is rude for people to just sit and visit when it affects time with others. Damn cell phones - all common courtesy gone for the almighty cell phone.

5. I absolutely DESPISE Call-Waiting!
When I'm talking to a friend or a family member on the phone and that person says "Hold on...I have another call", I hang up. I will let my doctor's office put me on hold, I'll let my insurance company put me on hold and I'll let the DMV put me on hold. But give me a f***ing break! When you're talking to a friend on the phone, you should be able to focus long enough on one conversation to see it through to the end. I guess you could say it PISSES ME OFF!

6. A lot of us just press cancel or say ""Let it ring"
Caller ID is nice. I just call back when appropriate.
