Has anyone here used "Chantix" for smoking cessation?
My doctor prescribed some, and it's not cheap. It's about $120/month. Yeah, yeah, yeah - I know that's about what I pay for cigarettes, but... still. My doc had great things to say about it.

I checked the web and I've found varying opinions - some great some not so great. So, I wanted to see if anyone here has experience - success or failure with this product.

Anyone?

2. I filled the prescription....it's still sitting in my med cabinet. Too scared.
I read that it can really make you sick to your stomach so I'm too skeerd to try it.

I will though...soon.

Good luck!

3. My mom's been on it and hasn't smoked in 4 weeks. She has
tried Zyban, the patch, hypnotism and willpower - nothing has worked.

The only problem she is having is sleeping - she is not getting a full night's sleep. She wasn't before she started either but it's gotten worse.

8. That's encouraging! Good for her!
I've heard vivid and odd dreams are a side-effect. Is she having that or general trouble falling asleep/sleeping?

14. Not having the dreams, just trouble sleeping for any extended period
of time.

Good Luck to you! I'm thinking about doing it if it continues to work for her.

7. Only thing that works on stoping smoking is
you have to want to stop.

11. Mr. Gray is a hypnotherapist.
He suggests that whatever you think will work, you should try. Eventually, you will quit.

I hope my "eventually" is soon.

17. What if I "think" that ramping back up to 3 packs a day will work?
:)

22. Hahahaha, that is exactly what I did!
I smoked 3-4 packs of Marlboro's per day for a few weeks til I was so of smoking, I quit cold turkey. That was in 1977.

13. It worked really well for other people I know
Made me want to barf. I wasn't ready for it either. It does eliminate your desire to smoke but you are well aware of the loss, if that makes sense.

15. Yeah, that does make sense.
And I can see how that could be odd and how you really do have to be ready for it.

Thanks.

16. Nope. I just chose to quit

Admittedly it was uncomfortable, but it was cheaper than $120.00 a month.

18. If you genuinely want to quit, it will help you very much
And if you don't, it won't matter anyway.

19. Try the Chantix if you must...
but I found after using Zyban and the patch I had to go cold turkey. The toughest part? You have to know how you're going to ride out a craving when it hits. I did it by clenching my fists, closing my eyes very tight and telling myself over and over "don't light up, don't light up, don't do it, don't do it. This craving will only last a couple of minutes and I will be kicking myself for daaaays if I give in".

Sounds weird, I know. The downside? Eating like a horse. Really, have the carrot and celery sticks ready all the time. Find another activity that will keep your hands busy. I took up crocheting again (not very good at it but it keeps my hands busy. My husband flips through the pages of a magazine.

Good Luck.

20. My doc prescribed it to me last week.
I'm too cheap to get it filled. Keep us updated.

I've successfully quit smoking, but now I'm hooked on nicotine gum. She said the chantix should stave off the craving. Either way, congrats on trying to quit!
