John Paul Freaking Jones at Merlefest
My friend Lunafruitcake went to Merlefest last week. What should appear to her wandering eyes but John Paul Jones, as in, the bass player for Led Freaking Zeppelin. In case you can't tell, she was able to get a bit closer to him than at the average Led Zep concert.

Color me insanely jealous

3. Yay! Jonsey!
That's sweet. I have wanted to see Jones in concert for a while, I hear he puts on a great show. Too bad he never stops by my town. I bet he rocks the bass, like that electric bass solo in the lemon song. Best.Bass.Solo.Ever. Your friend's lucky.

4. She said it was the best part of the festival
I'm guessing that a lot of people there had never listened to Led Zep which just makes it so much cooler.

7. I know it's a very diverse crowd
That's why I said a lot of the people weren't Zep fans. I have no idea what the percentages are and perhaps I didn't use the best choice of words.

I've never been because it's too damn far away: a whole 45 miles from my house.

8. we should make plans...i am about 45 miles away also
i have been several times over the years...it has really grown and not quite the fun it used to be for me anyway....

but, yeah

bluegrass pickers LOVE rock and roll

they will find any excuse to play it and will take hard core rock song and pick it out on banjo and fiddle...it is amazing

have you ever heard the moody blues/bluegrass cd?

9. I'm not a big fan of crowds
I've seen Doc Watson several times in various settings and think that the man is a national treasure. I even saw him join a Grateful Dead cover band onstage at a club.

I haven't heard the Moody Blues disc but I love the Hayseed Dixie AC/DC bluegrass covers album.

6. I've got a bootleg of one of his solo concerts from 1999. It blew my mind how good he is on
his own. It really made me appreciate his musicianship that much more. He really never got the credit due him.
