Movie Darwin Awards...
I got to thinking: We have Darwin Awards in real life, why not for movies?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gC8i6kUI-R0

I'm gonna nominate this rather gory scene from Silent Hill. Generally speaking, it's not a good idea to throw rocks at a "witch" when there's ample proof that magic actually works.

Also, Pyramid Head is awesome.

Anyone got any submissions of their own?

1. 2001: A Space Odyssey
The whole 'rescue' attempt. Bowman and Pool were aware that their smarter than the average IPod computer which had complete control of the ship was getting a tad twitchy; it was screwing around with the Earth link communications for one thing. Pool EVAed to fix link and HAL swatted him into eternity. And he was killed; clear visual that his air hose was torn and venting oxy.

So what did the ship's commander do? Did he do anything to protect the three mission specialists, who were in cyro sleep, from the bat shit crazy computer which just killed another crewman? Did he do anything about HAL like, oh gee, try to turn it off? Nope, he jumped in a pod and went after dead guy leaving the three guys at the mercy of HAL. Oh yes, and forgot to take his helmet with him.

That's quality Darwin.

2. Dakota Fanning in "War of the Worlds"
Hmmm, dad says I should stay here, so I'm going to wander off like a stupid fucking little twit and almost get killed. Then, when the huge as fucking hell Martian war machine is out looking for fresh meat, I'm going to stand in complete silence while he screams my name, trying to find me to save my life.

God, I wanted her to die in that movie so badly.

5. Well you know, in the Cliche School of Script Writing,
having a skin color other than day-glo white is the equivalent of wearing the Star Trek Red Shirt O'Death.

7. Anyone in a Jaws sequel
The first movie taught us to never go swimming in the ocean. Don't even get in fucking boat.

Stay on dry land where it's safe.

8. The classic - too many films to list.
Everybody, I mean, everybody tells dumbass character don't open that door, go in that cave, stay in that house, press that button, you name it. Of course, Dumbass finds out why it wasn't a good idea to open the door, go in the cave, stay in the house, press the button and gets the Darwin Award for the year.

Yes I know, Dumbass has to do the stupid else Our Hero wouldn't have a mess to clean up. However, one would think Dumbass had seen enough movies to twig when you're told by everybody don't .....

9. There was this made for TV movies where an Meteor crashed on Earth.
Edited on Thu May-03-07 02:03 PM by Evoman
Can't remember the name.

Anyhow, there is this little kid (the protagonists son) who manages to escape harm when the meteor lands in his city. So he starts walking and wandering, as kids are wont to do. However, you would think that the kid would walk AWAY from the devestation...you know...the way that has cleaner sky, less cars on fire, and less rubble.

At the end of the movie, the kid ends up at ground zero. I kid you not....he is hanging from a bus that is teetering over the huge crater. How the fuck he got ON the bus, then managed to be hanging on to the end of it, who the fuck knows. Then the protagonist and her hero man have to save the idiot kid.

I would have nudged the bus over with my car. Fucking kid deserved to die.
