Are there any good deals left? Or is everything a ripoff? I went to Vons supermarket today and bought 5 bags of groceries and paper goods - $72.00.

6. The price of water is reasonable.
And I don't think the price of vegetables is crazy yet.

What more do you need :).

8. I saw some old movie the other day where a lady bought a bag of groceries, and
the clerk said, "That'll be one dollar." And they were courteous, and the bag boy helped her carry it. I don't know what movie or when it was made, but times sure have changed.

18. I fully agree
Local teevee "news" became a joke long ago, while it's one thing newspapers still deliver — not well, but for 35 cents a day (which, coincidentally, is about what most reporters make), you can't get it anywhere else.

OTOH, the lead story in the local weekly that came today is about how many calories are in fast food. Stop the presses!!!11 :eyes:

My argument for the naysayers, though, was gonna be about the advertising. If you can't find 35 cents in savings per day just by reading a few of the ads, you're doing something wrong.

21. What paper's that?
I like to keep tabs on Kollyforniya papers, since I've worked for a few of 'em.

If you don't want to reveal your city, just give me the name of the paper. I know just about all of 'em in the state. :hi:

23. After reading just a wee bit of that sucker
I'd be inclined to agree with you. It seems to be one of those papers that hires people who like to write but have no journalism experience. (Don't laugh. I've actually seen that on resumes.)

12. Store closing or otherwise?
Food, at least the staple ingredients, can usually be found for good prices.

Cub Foods is the worst; I can go to any other store that sells food and usually get the same stuff for rather less money...

And with Wal-mart opening up a grocery area, Cub will be the first to vanish. (Thank goodness, their fleece is white as snow... until the dog took a leak on it.)

Target's withstood Walmart in the past, so I'd reckon they'll still survive.

But Cub can go.

I can get half a scoop of minnows for $1.75. I can get a dozen earth worms for the same price. I consider both a bargain.
