Do you like poetry?
I was wondering if I should post my poetry in the lounge or not.

1. Why not? I'm sure it'll be read.
Do you post it in the Poetry foruM?

9. Thank you.
Its not so much that I'm shy, its just that I don't know if the lounge is the right place for it. Maybe general discussion...

20. Here's one of my father's poems
This is the Preface to his poetry manuscript, which to my knowledge has never been published as a complete work. Since he used to publish many of my works without asking me, I feel I can post some of his without recrimination now that he's gone.

Enjoy.

UNTITLED

How many pearls of wisdom have been lost
(You’ve also wondered, I suppose,)
Through the neglect of originators
The gems on record to transpose?

Who can account for great symphonies
Or the varied masterworks of art
Irretrievably lost forevermore,
Locked within the now-stilled heart?

And what about those grand inventions
Such as man has never seen,
Enriching beyond comprehension—
If only we had what might have been?

Though we know all aren’t creative
Nor to immortality do all aspire,
Yet the Bible says our total work
Must meet the judgment test of fire.

How shall we know we’ve done our best
If every jewel lies astray
And through indiff’rence we defer
Too long our discernments of today?

What’s gone is gone—no use lamenting—
The loss is now beyond recall,
But let’s treasure new inspirations
And for posterity transcribe all!

Clarence W. Hessler

22. I like poetry...
and I think you should post it.

There is a fairly significant tradition of poetry in the Lounge.

I post one from time-to-time.

RetroLounge posts a daily poem thread.

CaliforniaPeggy posts poems all the time.

Go ahead. :-)
