Ha! I'm STILL the toughest son of a bitch in the Valley.
(Except for TomInTib, of course.)

Guess what, guys: For one solid week now, I've been walking straight as as arrow, and with no discernable limp...well, no more than my customary one, at least. All day, every day, and there's one DUer who has seen me do it, and will tell you it's true.

Cane? I don't need no esteenking cane!

The Monster? I've shoved that bastard back into the closet where he belongs, yet again. And spit in his face just before I slammed the door.

I may still limp just a little, but I ain't dead yet.

3. Good for you!
Don't let it win. A positive attitude goes a long way (and being a mean son of bitch too ;) ).

4. I'm too cussed to end up in a wheelchair. Those things don't fit in sports cars, anyway, so what
good are they?

Thanks for the positive thoughts.

6. Which part? The first one? I've overcome more horrible injuries and medical emergencies than
most people have had steak dinners, but Tom? He makes me look like a weenie.

There goes a man.

9. Absolutely.
My dear wife has been on the mend as well. She only recently was able to discard her cane but remains in PT for a few more weeks. One must be an SOB to overcome these kind of obstacles.

I can attest.

20. RL, I owe you the truth. I never set out to be an inspiration for anyone. My injuries are
my own fault; the payback for my idiotic decision that it was worth going into the middle of a combat zone for $1500 per month (though that was a pretty good figure in 1972).

And the MS? That just happens. And it happens to a lot of people much worse than it happened to me. And it's something I have to fight, but it does not take NEAR the courage to fight as the people with cancer, or heart disease, or lupus, or the worse forms of MS, or Parkinson's, or Alzheimer's, or (God help them) ALS have to summon up.

THEY are the ones to admire. Though I'll accept your congratulations on my minor victory with immense gratitude. Walking in a straight line is something you don't miss until you can't do it, indeed.

Thanks for the kind words.

15. And you've come back from it. I'll have to do this again, and again, and again, because
that's the nature of MS, but I'll do it, just as you did.

Hey, am I going to let a GIRL (and a damn pretty one at that) show me up? I'm a child of the fifties, when guys were supposed to "run it off," even if the bone was sticking out.

Thanks for the positive words.

21. Well, I did buy one, but I'm not gonna use it. Funny how it seems like a victory that I walked
an entire mile today and lived to tell about it; back in the day, I'd walk 3000 vertical feet with a 50-pound pack while smoking cigs and drinking beer, and leave the "outdoorsmen" gasping for breath a mile behind me.

But times change, don't they?

24. You are such an inspiration, and right now I feel ashamed....
this morning I worked out with a trainer, and I was whining about having to do inverse rows. I know that I should be glad I can do inverse rows.

does everyone else here.

You have nothing to apologize for.

I know how you feel. I walk like I'm drunk half the time and I don't even drink anymore! Those are the good days though... I'm just thankful to still be ABLE to walk.. for now.. I have no guarantees about the future though. I'll keep right on chugging along though, never let it keep us down!

PEACE! (it's NOT just for hippies anymore)
