I've been pre-approved for my car!!!
:bounce: I've been pre-approved for a 2007 Nissna Sentra, and the week of May 6th I'm going to finish my driving lessons So I'm really happy about that!! Next, I plan on finding anew job aspa and just smiling, as I drive away from the pure evil that has become Kroger in my rearview mirror

If I had my license right now, I'd buy it! While I CAN, legally I can't OWN it until I pass my inital road test :-)

2. my answer
yes, I can afford a new car, yes I have 3500 saved up, and NO, I'm not getting a used car. My Sentra will cost 16500 total, and I'll make a 1500 downpayment. any other questions?

BTW, I'm working full time making 11.69/hr.

3. sorry man. really didn't mean to rain on your parade
that was posted badly and I apologize.

we are about to buy a 'new' car as well but we'll buy used. we bought our first NEW car in 98 and i'll never buy one again probably. the car has been great but they just lose so much value when you drive them off the lot. late model used is the way to go for us.

again, my apologies for my previous post the way it came out

6. no problem
o offense taken with you Matcom :-) Orignially I had it with all the bells and whistles, going to 20,000 :ow: I stepped abck and said,"no, I don't need all the tricks and super features..." the actual model I want is in the main showfloor, I only asked that the intelligent kep be added and bluetooth junk removed. When I go sing the papers, I'm tkaing my dad for the final price negotiating too :-)

4. It's your money, but...
Edited on Fri Apr-20-07 08:30 AM by Chan790
Matcom is kinda right. your $16,500 car is worth less than $11,000 the next morning when you wake up. If you buy a used 2006 Sentra...you'll save the $5,500. If you want to buy new, that's your choice...I could think of a lot of crap one can buy with $5K though.

My cheap/spendthrifty parents have made an art-form out of this buying recent repos because the repossessor cannot charge for the repo-ed car what it sold for brand-new 3 months prior. Just bought a $32K 2007 Ford Ranger truck for about $22K (It's mint...if your concern is that the car has been abused).

If you want to know how bad of a deal new cars are, consider this: Less than 10% of car salesmen buy new cars for themselves.

Edited: to nice-ify

7. your very first car?
buying a brand new one guarantees it will be your very first car salesman rapefest.

watch out for the "undercoating" and "credit protection."

10. He is right. One should never buy a new car. Couple of years "new" is the better way too go.

12. Congrats on the car
Sentras are great and the new ones are really sweet. I had mine for 9 years and it was still going strong until it got totaled last week. I replaced it with a new Versa which I'm loving so far. 120 miles of city driving and the gas gauge has barely budged on it.

13. Congrats on the new car.
I hope you have fun, but stay safe.

I bought my first New car two years ago. Have always bought used before that. It was great knowing that I was the only one who ever drove it. Yeah they devalue fast but, HEY it is your car and it is only your car, no one else has touched it. Take care of it and it will take care of you for a long time.

Again congrats.

14. thank you!!
That's my main point--sure I could find sme nice used cars, especially some recent Altimas form 2005 :-) BUT sice it's goig to cost me abou the same amount of money anyway for a new Sentra, I figured go with the new and know that I'm the first one to drive it on a daily basis.
I plan on taking a fe practice drives with my dad and/or co worker for the next 2 weeks, then as I go on vacation, have a formal driving class and pass the road test:-)

15. Good choice, I've owned 2 Sentras, a '94 XE and a '01 SE
Both were fantastic cars. The '01 was more fun to drive, but the '94 was more reliable. The '94 spent a total of 4 hours in the shop (other than maintenance) in the 7 years I owned it. The '01 was more fun, but I had to spend a lot of money on brake repair the winter before I traded it in (just outside warranty), the calipers froze and it ended up costing me $1,200 or so to fix).

The only reason I didn't get another one was because I wanted more room (I bought a Honda Element last year).

The Sentras are great. I'm not too keen on the new taillight designs on the '07 models, but they're still great cars.

Congrats! You'll love the car!

16. Buying an inexpensive new car can be an excellent way to go.
Buy low price vehicles that have an excellent reputation for quality and resale value and you really can't go too wrong. An even smarter (imho) choice might be a Toyota or a Honda (quality and resale), but it's your decision and if you really like the Sentra- enjoy your first new car!
