Who would one call to install a sump pump?
Would it be a plumber? A basement waterproofing company (of which there are surprisingly many out there)? Or would I have to have a mason do the concrete cutting then a plumber do the piping, etc.?

I could probably do it myself I'm just not that handy, nor do I have the time to spare on it.

1. I'm thinking a plumber...
I'd call a few and ask -- if they can't do it, they can steer you in the right direction.

Good luck.

:hi:

3. It really is a DIY job.
I'd be surprised if you don't get a lot of "no"s.

It's the sort of job that is not economically worth it for a plumber or waterproofer to come out and do. (I've never met a plumber who will change shower-heads either.) It literally takes an hour at most...provided you know where the lowest point of your basement is.

7. An hour?!?!
To cut through cement, dig a 20 gallon sized hole in the soil, run piping and then cementing it back up? Really?

9. I forget everybody doesn't have a dirt basement floor.
Cement is a bastard...that's a pro job alright. Disregard me.

4. Just installed one this weekend.
I had 2 foot of water in my basement over the weekend....(Bad rain storm)....My Father went to Lowe's, bought one, and installed it over the course of a couple of hours...Not really sure how difficult it was, but Daddy was able to do it alone.....I of course stayed up stairs and watched Lifetime...I definitely am not handy...

8. I think those that think it's a DIY job are assuming it's just replacing a sump pump.
But to install a new sump pump, with dug hole and pipes leading away from the foundation would be much more complicated, and I doubt that most people would want to do it themselves. I've replaced an existing sump pump before and that's easy. I wouldn't dare try to install whole new sump pump system.

My guess is that it would be about $500 or much more depending on the type of foundation, how deep the ground water is, etc., to have a plumber do it.

10. Thanks, that's more what I thought.
Glad to hear that's your guess, even if it's not 100% accurate. I'd say if I can have someone do it for a grand, I can afford it and it would be worth my time. I was more just wondering who to call.
