My husband and I are both quitting our jobs today!!!!
:bounce:

We both hate them, so this is really liberating to say the least! For me, I graduate from nursing school next month and start working as an RN (well "GN" officially until I pass my boards in July, but that's semantics unless you're in the field and know how it works) at a wonderful hospital in my field of choice at the beginning of June. Finnfan starts a 2-month program on the same day I start my job to be able to utilize his B.A. in English (finally :)) as a springboard for teacher certification (only 20% of those who apply to his program even get in). It's been such a long road- I remember I was taking Anatomy and Physiology back in 2003 shortly after I was first on DU- but here it's finally coming to an end.

Good things happen when we are together because we're able to encourage one another in ways we haven't had before. Anyway, it's just nice. :)

Anyway, I think were due for some champagne tonight (or perhaps some decent imported brew).

6. Good luck to both of you
My cousin's husband did similar about 8-10 years back - quit his corporate job & became an elementary school teacher through some special program. He was a pretty hot commodity when he finished the program, too, because male elementary school teachers are pretty rare.

Can you say at which hospital you'll be working?

22. Supposedly, there was 100% job placement with last year's grads of his program.
He's actually going to be teaching middle school, but not so many men there either. He'll be good. I'll PM my stuff in order to retain a little anonymity. :)

8. Thanks! Quitting my job was part of the best decision I'd made in a long time.
I didn't *hate* my job but it certainly was time, and law school (the other part of that decision) is agreeing with me.

Good luck!

24. It can be a risk, but a risk for the better sometimes.
I gave up an excellent job opportunity three years ago when I was initially divorcing my ex in the early childhood field (my first degree) that was actually a decent paying social service position (hard to find) in order to work as an assistant in medicine so my hours would be more flexible for school and I could get part-time benefits. It was a tough choice and a risk (about 1/2 the people don't make it through my nursing program), but I did it. Sometimes your gut is right. Best of luck in your continued legal studies. :)

9. Now let me give you some advice on the NCLEX
When you take the test, if your computer stops after 75 questions you are going to feel like that you have totally failed the test, but that is usually not true unless you have TOTALLY bombed the exam, the computer will give you a chance to pass. Remember that it WANTS you to pass. I know when I took the exam I totally felt like I failed but when I put some thought into it I realized that I did well enough that I didn't totally bomb it. Plus a good study aid is to get one of those books that comes with a computer program that gives you old and sample NCLEX questions that really helped me to fire off 50 each night and go back and do more on the problems that I didn't do well with. Me being a male nurse predictably I didn't do well on my maternal questions because that was the area of nursing that I had little interest in, and when I took the exam it seemed that most of my questions were on that. Good luck to you and WELCOME TO THE CLUB!!!! :hi:

25. I've heard this from a lot of people.
I think I'm going to panic if I hit 75 and it doesn't shut off. I have a week of NCLEX review set up before I start working thankfully and we get a (nongraded) practice test at school in a couple of weeks. It's a good club (I'm hoping for the maternal child health questions though)! :D

43. Yes it can be, and nearly 25 years in it it's time for me
to explore other things. I'm looking at somehow using my knowledge of my area of medicine and combine it with a more creative pursuit like marketing, media, writing.

I'm glad you found your right place. Whenever I've read your posts talking about what you're doing career-wise I feel the energy you put into it, as if it's really a part of you.

Now to find where I need to be.

36. I seem to be suited for it.
I've always excellent in biological sciences and social sciences, but the "ick factor" wasn't something I could handle until I was older. I think after having my own children puke on me enough times, I'm pretty hard to phase now. ;)

42. No news at all! Aside from the Coachella date and a few shows in the UK, they
have been very quiet. I'm growing more and more terrified that the Chicago dates are going to be in late September, when I will be out of town for a wedding. That will be just my luck! Never got to see them before (although I've seen Neil many, many times), so that will just about kill me.

I will pass along info as soon as I find out anything.

67. Congranulations!
My honey and I couldn't find jobs. We are over 40 and each have three degrees.
We both have an associate's and a bachelor's. He has a master's, and I have a doctorate.

We're too old and too expensive, so we decided to sell my house in the city for a nest egg and retire. unfortunately we have spent over four years cleaning out the house I inherited, because it had about 5 households' worth of stuff in it and nobody ever threw anything away, or sold anything off. The auction house guy has been by with his 40 foot truck, and we still have a lot of stuff. AGGGHHH!!!
