Do You Burn Incense In Your House?
Edited on Tue Apr-17-07 05:26 PM by querelle
I just bought some great patchouli incense this past weekend and burned it for most of Saturday and Sunday. A friend came over last night and said my house smelled weird. I explained to him that it was incense and he replied that the only reason to burn incense is to cover up the smell of pot. What nonsense! I just really like the smell. You?

2.  I always thought they should make a Pot scented Incense.
That way you could make the neighbors think you were blazing when you weren't. :silly:

7. I dig certain varients, yes...
The sad part is, I don't use pot, nor do I see any reason why smokin' pot has to be done as a mandatory prerequisite for using incense. :)

Now if you were into spanish fly... :D

9. All the time...
I have tons of different varieties. Sometimes for ritual or symbolic reasons, sometimes just because I really like all the scents. Also I smoke cigarettes and it works a lot better than any freshener spray to mitigate that.

I'm actually not a big pot smoker, but I like the smell of that too - I think it'd make a great incense! :D

10. I used to burn incense all the time. Now I use aromatherapy diffusers
I grew up with a single hippy therapist father who burned Nag Champa all the time, so I was used to it. When I went off to college I used to burn it in my dorm room all the time and everyone knew who I was within a relatively short amount of time. :D Yes, it proved its effectiveness at hiding the smell of pot smoke more than once or twice, I'll admit it. heheh.

Later on, in my adult years I would burn it a lot, too....but somewhere along the way I got turned onto essential oils and aromatherapy, instead. That's what I use nowadays.

I am very much olfactory-oriented. :D

I have an oil diffuser, but still like incense. I find that old fashioned incense has a very exotic and alluring smell.

14. I used to be extremely picky about what type of incense I burned.
none of that tacky cheap shit for me! I got the good stuff, man...

I liked Nag Champa, Sandlewood, Amber, Frankincense....

I had certain brands that I would always buy, but I can't remember any of them now.

:hi: Q!

18. There's also a doodad called a catalytic alcohol burner.
Commonly sold under the brand name Lampe Berger of France in tchotchke shops.
There are other brands too.

Many fragrances available. For DIY, use 90% alcohol and a few drops of essential oils. The top part has a piece of firebrick with a large looped wick that goes down into the bottle. You light it after you have filled the container and the wick is thoroughly soaked. Blow the flame out after about 2 minutes and the firebrick glows and keeps burning till it runs out of fuel several hours later.

It sterlizes the air and gives it a bit of fragrance.

nor have I ever seen the word "tchotchke" spelled out before, come to think of it. :D

I probably would've spelled it "chochkey".

30. I had to look up those useful Yiddish words!! Much better than saying "knickknacks".
I highly recommend "The Joys of Yiddish" by Leo Rosten. Excellent dictionary.

A friend of mine told me about the Lampe Berger (pronounced Ber-zhay, as in Schlumberger). Some of them are quite beautiful. I like the glass ones so I can tell the fuel level easily.

I like oils too. I found a really great oil called "Seabreeze" which I keep in my diffuser constantly. But I still like incense.

21. I've recently been turned on to soybean wax candles
100% soybean wax

It's biodegradable - Paraffin is not
It's a renewable resource unlike petroleum wax
Using soybean wax supports American farmers, not the petroleum industry
Paraffin wax contains 11 documented toxins - 2 of which are carcinogenic
Less soot emissions (no black crap on glass)
Burns longer
Lead-free Cotton wicks

I am sold!!

In the Patriotic Backlash Post 9/11 (TM), my brother and I hit on the idea of buying up tons of fireworks punks and selling them as Libery Brand Incense. Smells like Freedom!

33. I like Nag Champa incense once in awhile
but more often I will burn some sage. Usually right before getting in the bathtub, and I take it all through the house to 'clear' the air before setting it down.
