Apparently, I have some deep-seated desire to be in shit with the IRS.

Note to self: Tomorrow or ELSE!!

3. Then I will pmail you and remind you -
would you like a reminder at a specific time, or before 5pm?

As I said, you have till midnight. I am one of those that get a silly adrenalin rush pushing my luck and dropping it off at the main post office by midnight. It's like tempting fate or something. :P

I'll remind you! :hi:

10. Yaaaay! I get an extra two days to file!!!
I guess the IRS has taken pity of those of us who were affected by the storm. We have 2 extra days as long as we write "April 16 Storm" on our return. I had every intention of mailing mine today but my road is washed out...gone bye-bye. There is another way out of here but that road is in about 3 feet of mud. I'm not going to risk my life for the IRS.

12. I thought that you were in a "tax free" business.
A mortal messenger of the Invisible Magical Sky Wizard need not bother with taxes. Taxes are for heathens, blasphemers, apostates, and heretics.

13. Institutions are tax-exempt. Not individuals. I pay taxes on my income just like you.
If you have a problem with charitable orgs being tax exempt, contact your congresscritters. I didn't write the law.

14. Do you owe? Or are you expecting a refund?
If you owe, you might have a bit of a problem but if they owe you, i don't think it is that big of a deal.

15. You still have to file on time, regardless of whether you owe or they do.
Unless, of course, you file an extension.

In which case, if you owe, you STILL have pay on time.

27. Actually, that's not true.
I know this, because I have successfully gone 10 consecutive years without filing, then filed once, and skipped 2. I just filed today for 2006, 2005, and 2004. If they owe YOU money they don't care if you never file. You'll never hear a peep from them about it either. :D

I found this out when freaking out about not having mine filed on time many many years ago and called for an extension. They wouldn't give me one because if you don't owe THEM, they don't care!

30. I got a call in '97 or '98 from the IRS. I was in trouble for not filing for tax year 1992.
However, I HAD filed (and could prove it), and they actually owed me money.

31. That's weird.
Maybe they suspected that you owed or something?

The last tax return I filed before filing today was in 2003 and I hadn't filed in 10 years. Today I filed for 2004, 2005, and 2006 - since I talked to someone at work and they very easily printed out the W2s for me. :D

You may be the exception that proves the rule.

33. HUGE penalty if you owe them money.
None that I've ever encountered if they owe you. The worst thing that happens is that you can only go back and get refunds for 3 years - so if you haven't filed for 5 you forfeit the first 2 years' refunds.

And I wouldn't blame you for not doing so -- the IRS isn't any organization to screw around with: :scared:

24. depending where you live you may have till thursday
the northeast is officially a flood "disaster" area (lots of flooding of roads/tracks), so they're extending the deadline till thursday.

Good luck!
