Me? Computer and server support (or even teaching), web design, graphic design, and on weekend nights I'd tell a few jokes - though as to how many would be good, I wouldn't know.

How about you?

1. If I could do anything at all,
I'd like to earn my living writing. Of course, to make that happen I'd have to find people who want to actually *read* it...but hey -- what's a little technicality.

:P

but it's a lot of work and hard to keep one going.

I've seen so many clubs open and quickly fold.

7. I wanna get paid for flushing the toilet. Or eating breakfast.
Or something dumb like that.

I figure $1000 a flush, I'd be happy to sign a contract that says I only get paid for one a day, no matter how much I actually flush.

I'm not greedy.

34. If it could be just picking up one pile a day for $1000 a day, yeah.
That would be pretty good, but it would still require some work on my part.

That's why I want the toilet flushing job, since it's something I do anyway.

We could cover both LA and Orange Counties!

I figure my experience in trimming down my stuff for the cross country move should help in these types of endeavors!

9. John McCain's idea
Edited on Mon Apr-16-07 10:25 PM by EOO
Remember last year when he said that "Americans wouldn't cut grass if they were paid $50/hour?" I seriously wanted to fax him my resume!

Although seriously, I have been toying with the idea of opening my own print shop, but the printers required to do so, are fucking expensive.

17. As a 50+yr old fat woman I'm considering prostitution.
My pension won't support the amount of people I have to take care of and after 30 years in a shop I don't have any skills except operating staple guns, nut drivers, spray guns etc. Walmart, Walgreen's, Kmart, never called back. I don't think I have the "people skills" they're looking for.

18. I'd like to start my recording studio back up
Did it full time for 7 years, got worn out and bummed out so I went back to work full time. now I'm getting the itch to get out of this job and back out on my own.

But, since then a little one has come along and I have to think of her first, mostly the fab medical insurance benifits I have with my job. I'd be hard pressed to find a med plan I could afford for the family with a startup business.

22. For a while, I did this thing where I could be hired to do presentations,
speeches, etc, about whatever issue you needed talking about, but were too shy or poor a speaker or whatever to do it yourself. I did it for a bunch of progressive orgs. They'd get me the info about an issue, I'd read through it and/or do my own research, make sure I knew what point they wanted made, and go make a speech. I even testified before a state legislative committee about campaign finance reform, once. I really love doing public speaking, and I'm mighty good at it, if I do say so myself. It wouldn't support me all by itself, but it was nice additional income. In a larger city, maybe it would pay all the bills. It might be fun to try.

25. Elvis impersonator! Well, and natural-history TV type.
The latter was going well for me when I did some of it during my PhD career and it probably remains my dream job, combining my strengths. I know enough people in that field that it remains a possibility.

The Elvis gig is working out very well. Not too many places other than Vegas that it'd be as sustainable as a single source of income, though, and even here most people who do it do not rely on it for all of their income. The money's variable -- the outlook is ephemeral with less job security than most even in this economy -- but when it's good it is exceptionally good.

I like working for myself. I hope to continue doing it, whatever I move to next, to at least some extent.

31. Sometime this year I plan to quit my job and work as a freelance
graphic designer. The good part about getting paid as little as I do at my shit job is that I shouldn't have too much trouble making up my salary as a freelancer. Art Directors with my experience and skills in my city average at least $15,000 more than what I make.
