CONFESS!!!!! For Friday the 13th - what are you superstitious about?
I always pick up pennies that I see lying around but only if they're heads up because tails up is considered unlucky

3. I'm too damned superstitious
I never pick up any money. I think its bad luck. I never stop my truck when the odometer is on certain miles. I always stand on a carpet when the clock chimes on the hour. And a few other wierd things I don't want to share for fear you'll have me committed. And I really don't like Friday the 13th. And my paranoia is in overdrive today because at least four times I have been the 13th post on a thread today.

I'll do that if I say something that I don't want to happen.

12. The number NINE
I will NOT live in a house whose adddress adds up to 9. So, for example, 621 Main Street is out of the question.

18. Quite a few
I'm sure I won't think of them all right now, but here are some of my biggies. I follow all of these religiously and really believe them:

Never open an umbrella indoors (I become sick to my stomach when I see someone do this)
Knock on wood
If you drop salt, you have to throw some over your left shoulder
Never make a toast with water in your glass
Always take a drink before setting down the glass after a toast
Never set a hat on the bed
Avoid the number 13
Cold hands, warm heart
Only wear opals if they are your birthstones (I love them, but have never touched one)
Never marry someone who's last name has the first initial as yours' (i.e. Miller can't marry Murphy)
Guests should always leave the same door that they entered
Horseshoes must be hung to hold the luck in the middle
Never have a nursery ready until the baby is born
Never push/rock an empty rocking chair
Four leaf clovers are very good luck
If all the cows in a field are facing one direction, expect a storm from the other
Lady bugs are good luck, so never brush one off you
If your palms itch, you'll find money
If you drop a fork, you'll have an unexpected guest
If you nose itches, you'll kiss a fool
If your ears itch, someone is talking about you
Elephants are good luck, if the trunk is up (despite this I can't have anything with an elephant on it near me because of the GOP)

19. Don't know if you'd consider this superstitious....
...but it's definitely a dichotomy in my personality. I'm an agnostic, believe in science and evolution--however I KNOW astrology works!!! Whenever Mercury is in retrograde, I wait in dread for the computers to crash and my friends to get pissed at me cuz I'll say the wrong thing. For people turning 30 or 60 I warn them about their Saturn return. I'm a Sagittarius and the words Marriage, Commitment and Responsibility are the scariest in the English language. (PS: I'm a woman, the men are worse!)

So there it is--my not-so-guilty little superstitious secret. So I hope everyone starts some great new projects with this sun-in-Aries time!

20. Me too...(karma)
Edited on Fri Apr-13-07 06:32 PM by YankeyMCC
Sorta...I'm an atheist and I don't really think there's a mystical force that balances good and bad deeds out but I do feel - without the usual strong evidence I would require for such things - that the more good you do the better life you'll end up having. It makes sense because the more you help those around you the more likely you be part of a harmonious community or in the case of helping strangers the more likely that stranger will be to help someone in turn and so forth until in some indirect way you get some good effect from that chain of events.

Opps hit reply in the wrong spot: I meant to reply to GOPSux Karma post.

21. Pfftt...not superstitious in the least. I open umbrellas indoors out of principle.
You'd be suprised how astounded people get at that. I do all the typical bad stuff just out of spite of superstitions. I've seen the bad effects of having stupid superstitions and it drives me nuts....for example, while I was volunteering at the humane society, I found out that the poor black cats were the least adopted, and they were usually the ones less groomed, it seems, by the other volunteers. :(
