but I would love to; I'm a bit of a genealogist and have been dying to get photos and rubbings to put with the tree, not to mention just the thrill of visiting and being where my ancestors stood.

I tend to avoid the family trips back to Iowa when possible (many reasons), but I really should make an effort to go in summer soon.

I looked for a picture of the damage and couldn't find one. It was very bad--the majority of the town suffered damage in that storm.

You can read about the tornado here:

75. That is the Methodist church.
My folks are members there still.

I remember watching a kid try and take his brother out with one of the wood kid-sized chairs at Bible school there. Seemed like an "up-close" demonstration of Cain and Abel when it was happening--ya know? We had snacks right after...

Hope is just up the road from us, and you probably preached to some of our neighbors when you were there. Now, if you'd been at St John's Lutheran church you'd have been preaching to the majority of Royal...

You coming down for the CCHCC dinner April 20?

89. Maybe there's a Methodist church named "Hope" too,
but the one I preached at is United Church of Christ. That's why I was preaching there. I had the feeling the neighborhood was pretty Lutheran, as that looked like a big church--and I know that neck of the woods is pretty German.

I had in my calendar that the dinner was the 28th, which is the date of my Association Meeting. I never actually got an invitation to the dinner. A volunteer or someone called to check my address, and I asked her when it was, and put the 28th in my calendar. And then I never got a notice in the mail.

I have to make a presentation at the local community college that afternoon--on religious perspectives on environmetal issues, but could go down to C-U after that. I'll have to see if it's still possible to get a ticket.

Thanks for letting me know!! Hope to be there!

76. We may be the only people on here to know where Allerton is.
Kind of a strange feeling--isn't it?

:hi:

In my life I have seen three tornadoes hit Ogden with varied levels of damage. A lot of people just gave up and left Ogden after this last one--and I can't really blame them for feeling they wanted to leave. That last tornado was a bad one, and I don't think you ever really get over it when 80% of the town gets flattened--ya know?

To this day, if you are in Ogden and a tornado watch comes out those folks are creeped out.

61. Delta, Ohio.
A very teeny town in northwest Ohio. Zodiak Ironfist and I were married at my grandparent's old farm house. It's like the family homestead. We were married in August on the wrap around front porch.

Here's a picture of us by a tree with a corn field right in the background.

62. Heh - honestly we were married in South Park - Colorado
(South) Park County. We picked up our license in Fairplay and were married outside with about 50 or 60 friends and family members, nearly 14 years ago now.

We got married eight years ago this September out in the gardens. A horse and carriage carried me out to the gardens. It was lovely, my dream wedding.

77. Twice:
First time in the rose garden at the state botanical garden here in Georgia. It was mid-August and by some miracle it was a cool and sunny day as opposed to 95 degrees and 90% humidity! Family and friends attended and as reception was held at a very nice, local, lakeside reception hall.

Second time took place in my living room with just me and my soon-to-be husband, the lady judge, my stepdaughter and two girl friends, one of whom was the photographer and one served as maid of honor.

I'm getting divorced now which is a good thing for me.

I got divorced the first time in the upstairs courtroom (sort of like the one in 'To Kill a Mockinbird') in a 19th century county courthouse in the county seat of a rural Georgia county.

I suppose I'll be divorced for the second time in the county courthouse here in the city where I now live.

I am waiting for it to be legal in MD. Then we will be married at the Charles County Courthouse in La Plata.

98. At the business end of a shotgun...
in a haze of alcohol and fear, looking at my pregnant bride who I never met, while "Festus" (the father apparently) grinned toothlessly while holding the shotgun, while "high-fiveing" "Cletus", supposedly my best man.

Funny how life can be.
