8. I think I saw the film first -- with all that great music.
Can't remember if I read that one first or BOC.

13. I remember the film.
With Valerie Perrine as Montana Wildhack. :-)

It was a reasonably good adaptation.

3. Last night, I turned on the computer, read DU...
found out that Kurt had left us, turned off the computer, went to bed, grabbed my copy of "Breakfast of Champions," read it from beginning to end, then went to a fitful sleep sometime around three.

That's how I did it.

Why?

Because Kurt Vonnegut was an unwavering band of light.

off to the bookstore. No idea what they'll have.

29. The Bookstore
Been there. They were totally sold out of everything but A Man Without a Country. I bought the last copy. Odd: I think that's the only one I haven't read, so that might be the perfect place to start.

10. Obviously, I'd start with... "Welcome to the Monkey House".
It's my favorite...

Then I'd read "Cat's Cradle".

My being a devout Bokononist and all.

14. "The Last Rites of the Bokononism"

God made mud.
God got lonesome.
So God said to some of the mud, "Sit up!"
"See all I've made," said God, "the hills, the sea, the sky, the stars."
And I was some of the mud that got to sit up and look around.
Lucky me, lucky mud.
I, mud, sat up and saw what a nice job God had done.
Nice going, God.
Nobody but you could have done it, God! I certainly couldn't have.
I feel very unimportant compared to You.
The only way I can feel the least bit important is to think of all the mud that didn't even get to sit up and look around.
I got so much, and most mud got so little.
Thank you for the honor!
Now mud lies down again and goes to sleep.
What memories for mud to have!
What interesting other kinds of sitting-up mud I met!
I loved everything I saw!
Good night.
I will go to heaven now.
I can hardly wait...
To find out for certain what my wampeter was...
And who was in my karass...
And all the good things our karass did for you.
Amen.

24. I recently re-read "Cat's Cradle."
Next I want to re-visit Slaughterhouse-Five, which I've already read at least three times. Then Sirens of Titan. Then Breakfast of Champions!!

I probably won't bother with the ones I didn't like that much in the first place, like "Player Piano."

However, all of my copies are in storage and smelling pretty musty.

I should hit the used bookstore.

30. I'd go with chronological
That just seems like it would be a logical way to approach tackling reading all of his books. You'd be able to see how his style changed- writing style, content, etc. over the course of his career.

I've read a half-dozen or so his books so far, in a totally haphazard order, but I've still had a great time reading most of them. (The only one that has disappointed me a bit was Breakfast of Champions. It's not that it was a bad book; I'm just surprised at its reputation when I've found several of his lesser-known works to be much more satisfying.) The order I've been reading his books so far has been: Palm Sunday (autobiography/ story collection), Jailbird, Mother Night, Cat's Cradle, Slaughterhouse Five, Breakfast of Champions, and I'm currently working on The Sirens of Titan.
