A Song for KoolZip - Sad Eyes by Robert John
Sing it with me and try to weep at its beauty.

Looks like it's over, you knew I couldn't stay
She's comin' home today
We had a good thing, I'll miss your sweet love
Why must you look at me that way
It's over

Sad eyes, turn the other way
I don't wanna see you cry
Sad eyes, you knew there'd come a day
When we would have to say 'goodbye'

Try to remember the magic that we shared
In time your broken heart will mend
I never used you, you knew I really cared
I hate to see it have to end
But it's over

Sad eyes, turn the other way
I don't wanna see you cry
Sad eyes, you knew there'd come a day
When we would have to say 'goodbye'

Sad eyes, you knew there'd come a day
When we would have to say 'goodbye'
Sad eyes, turn the other way (turn the other way)
I don't wanna see you cry (cry, cry, cry)
Sad eyes, you knew there'd come a day (he-e-e-ey)
When we would have to say 'goodbye'
Sad eyes

2. Only first base?
I would have thought Sad Eyes was like Colt 45....works everytime.

RKZ and I went to a great used music store in New Orleans one day. He came home with 45 of Sad Eyes and I came home with Babe by Styx. For the sake of our reputations, let's say we were in the midst of a heavy irony phase.

5. "Irony" is gloss imposed on this situation.
I know that when I exited the room that day to leave you and the turntable alone, you bawled like an infant deprived of tit.

I actually did "Sad Eyes" at Karaoke one night. Needless to say, the "high notes" were not hit but gently swatted at.

4. You are a magnet, and I am steel.
Probably the worst songwriting metaphor of all time.

I know, that was Walter Egan, not Robert John and...wait- HOW THE FUCK DO I KNOW THIS??

10. We did a gig with Walter Egan
at the International Pop Overthow in Nashville.

We wiped the stage with him. Pussy.

6. You bastard!

I swear, that song triggers some sort of section in my brain that activates my "total wussiness" center.

7. I was singing the "Firesign" version of "Yankee Doodle" to my daughter last night:

Yankee Doodle came to terms,
Writing Martin Buber.
Stuck a Fuhrer in her back
And called it "Schicklegruber."

She said "Dad, you are very odd."

8. Whenever I make a FT reference to my wife, she laughs.
Then she asks me, "Did you make that up?" I reply: "No, it's the Firesign Theatre."

She stops laughing and goes, "oh." and changes the subject.

My wife has problems with anything associated with "The 60's," I think.

9. My wife says:
"Is that more of that ancient drug comedy shit again?"
