MONTERREY, Mexico (AFP) - US President George W. Bush (news - web sites) ordered that public officials guilty of corruption be barred entry to the United States.

The president announced the move, with immediate effect, in a proclamation released by the White House on the sidelines of the Summit of the Americas here.

Bush said he was suspending "entry into the United States, as immigrants or nonimmigrants, of certain persons who have committed, participated in, or are beneficiaries of corruption in the performance of public functions."

1. And who gets to decide that?
Does it only apply to people who have been found guilty of corruption?
(Hmm, on closer reading, it says "certain persons" which implies they already have their little list.)

8. Read the last paragraph of the 4 paragraph article (too funny)
The decision affects people whose actions have had "serious adverse effects on international activity of US businesses, US foreign assistance goals, the security of the United States against transnational crime and terrorism, or the stability of democratic institutions and nations."

9. nice paragraph.
I love how the first priority is U.S. businesses and way down last on the list is the stability of democratic nations.

17. Jeebus, you've given me a great Photoshop idea!
I'm picturing W's face on Harry Dean Stanton's body, peeking thru the chain link fence at the Drive-In/interment camp:

"Jeb! Avenge me! Avenge me!"

Then he turns and sees Poppy and Jeb and Neil right there next to him.

10. They're coming unhinged
They're also trying to put all scientific government undertakings re: public health under control of the White House.

We've got something very nasty coming.

13. I got that impression this morning
after hearing the statement by O'Neill yesterday that Bush couldn't do anything to him that he cared about because he was too old and too rich to care, then waking up to hear that Bush was investigating O'Neill for leaking secrets -- no attempt to deny the message, just kill the messenger.

And he should be finger-printed and photographed.
