Did (or do) your grandparents give you birthday or holiday gifts?
I buy for all my grandkids and it recently occurred to me that I don't recall ever getting a gift from my grandparents.

I'm wondering now if it might have been because they disapproved of my parents' marriage.

Or maybe they just hated me. :P

1. Yes. My grandparents gave me gifts, although...
when I think about it, I suspect that other than the checks that arrived in cards, any gifts issueing from my paternal grandparents were actually picked out by my mom, considering that those two were very old and lived very far away. My brother and I also got gifts or treats when we visited the grandparents. The paternal grandparents would drive us out for ice-cream and take us to the park. The maternal grandparents would take us to the toy store.

2. My grandmother gives me $10
She gives all her other grandchildren that too. She gives her children $20 and her great grandchild (and probably future ones also) $5. The reason that she gives these amounts is because that is what her mother gave everyone. She said that one of her other grandchildren said that perhaps she should give a little bit more because her mother was giving at that level over 20 years ago and with inflation and everything she isn't really giving enough. I'm not going to tell her that. She has six children, 15 grandchildren, and 1 great grand child now to give to. In addition, she does give my husband $10 for his birthday too. I assume that she also gives $10 to my other married cousin's spouse. Her grandchildren range from under 1 year to 29 years old so she will probably have more great grandchildren to give to in the future.
As for Christmas, she gives us all the same thing like scarves, mittens, blankets, rugs, or something else that everyone can use.
My other grandparents sent differing amounts of money. That grandmother died last summer and my grandfather did not send anything this Christmas or birthday, but he is sort of depressed and over 90 now.

3. Yes. I was the only grandchild on both sides of the family.

4. Sporadically.
Gift giving was never much of an institution in my family. I think the big gift-giving culture only got rolling around 10 or 15 years ago, anyway...

5. All my grandparents save one had died before I was born.
But Grandma was very generous up to the day she died when I was 8.

My sister and brother-in-law are quite generous with their grandchildren -- even though they seem to acquire them in threes. The triplets, of course, and now my nephew has become engaged to a divorcee with three of her own. All six received Easter gifts.

:)

6. My mom's parents did but not my father's parents.
Of course my maternal grandparents only have seven grandkids while on my father's side of my family I have about 100 first cousins.

I did get spoiled by my mom's mom's mom :D.

8. No they didn't, but it was a cast of thousands on both sides.

I have 60+ first cousins. We got treats when we visited the grandmothers (the grandfathers both died young,) and cards for our birthdays from one side.
