so, i found it just to say hello to all my friends, and let you know why i've been absent.
as many of you know, i lost my little sister to breast cancer in march 2006, just four months after my dad died in october 2005. dad was expected...he'd been very ill for a year, but my sister...that was a major shock.
she was diagnosed with a rare, and unfortunately, very aggressive form of breast cancer (inflammatory breast cancer) in on january 5, 2006, and by then, it had already spread to her brain and spine. in two months, she lost the use of her legs, then her upper body, and by the time she died, she could barely move her head.
the experience of it all...the asshole doctors, her initial misdiagnosis, the insurance company fucking up her one chance for a second opinion at the city of hope...all the that was almost too much to bear. my sister and i were very close, so losing her was truly like losing a part of myself, and for a while, i was just too devastated to do anything other than what i had to do. getting thru all the first milestones was tough...her birthday, christmas, and finally, the anniversary of her death a few months ago. but time is the great healer, and i've finally accepted all that happened, including the fact that i had to help my beloved, tough, beautiful little sister let go of this life and move on to the next. she was so positive, lucid, courageous...and stubborn, i think she might have held on, suffering in such terrible pain, if i hadn't told her it was ok to let go. to give you an idea of what a loving and selfless person she was, the last time i saw her, she asked me "what's wrong?" rest in peace, cynthia.
so, i haven't been because i couldn't be here, but now that i have found some semblance of solid ground again...i'm back.
