My Victorian dreams have been dashed....
re: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=105&topic_id=6375476

I just got the structural report and there are $15k+ in major repairs that need to be done for me to feel that it is worth the time...now I have to walk away...

I will keep searching and one day I WILL find that perfect one!

1. Seller won't re-negotiate?
Have the seller drop their price to cover the necessary repairs.

3. I am not interested....on top of the 15k of "major" repairs
Edited on Tue Apr-10-07 09:51 AM by malta blue
we were already going to have to put in about 10k for the things we wanted - i.e. build a closet, redo the kitchen, tile the bathrooms, etc.

Thanks though - we thought long and hard about the price renegotiations, and our guts just kept saying no. No. NO.

On edit: Welcome to DU!:hi:

11. go with your gut
If you are able to walk away then it wasn't meant to be. You will find something else. Good Luck and thanks for the welcome.

4. Thanks - feeling pretty crappy right now.
This is the third one we have really liked, the other two we were outbid on.

5. That's a shame. That house is gorgeous, I feel bad that it didn't work out.

6. Thanks Bunny...
It is beautiful, but the barn is sinking into the dirt, the chimney needs to be rebuilt and parts of the electrical system are "hot" and need immediate repair, while other parts are just dangerous.

7. move to Northside in Cincinnati
yeah, it's a little rough around the collar, and there are yuppie conservobots about 20 minutes away, but I love it. You can get a 100+ year old brick Victorian for anywhere between $10,000 (which will need a lot of work) and about $150,000 for a pretty big, renovated one. Average house price here is around 50-60K (or was last time I checked), and the neighborhood has been making a lot of effort. Very arts and gay friendly too, and some great restaurants and bars within walking distance.

:)

9. Sounds great - except that I can not leave NYS because I
have a child and an ex husband. Otherwise, I would be right there....

14. There has been no new interest in the house
and our contract with the current realtor expires on the fifteenth of this month. I think what we'll do is switch realtors and lower the price a wee bit. Otherwise I'm doing very well, thank you for asking.

Sometimes I think we are required to wait until all the stars are perfectly aligned, so to speak. When that happens, we see the changes we wait for.

last week, but we were going to keep going on this house, maybe you are right about the stars being perfectly aligned....

17. Thanks Peggy
We really had high hopes, and were aware that it would need some work, but it was just too much for us to take on.

I am keeping fingers crossed to find another one soon. Little MB will be so disappointed when she finds out.

16. Sorry to hear
that the house deal did not go through, but as added $15k+ is difficult to budget for. I'll pray that you find the perfect house soon.

18. The 15k just killed it. And it is a damn shame too
because aesthetically, the house was everything we wanted.

20. Bummer - that was such a pretty house
But it sounds like a sensible decision - that's a lot of money to put into it in addition to the remodeling work you wanted to do anyway.

I will continue good vibes for you to find the perfect house.

21. Thanks Skygazer...
We could use the good vibes. Mr MB is pretty bummed, he had already laid out his wine cellar system.

I think I may take a week or two off from the house hunting thing...just to recuperate.
