Poll question: Your favorite Neil Young album
So many albums; not enough poll choices. Use "Choice 10" to add your unlisted favorite album.

1. Anything by this man works

Neil Young = Pure musician

If I had to pick I'd go with Harvest Moon just slightly over Everybody Knows...

12. "After the Gold Rush" is my personal favorite
I think it's both his most consistent album and probably also the album that has the most individual tracks that I would count as personal favorites (well, except for Decade but including it would probably be considered cheating!).

(I should say, though, that I've only heard perhaps half of his albums- mostly his earlier ones- so there may be something in his catalog that I'd like more but just have yet to hear.)

Always nice to hear your takes on music. I still have to fill out my Neil Young collection. I would put his new one, Living With War, right up there..

13. I choose Other so I can vote for Stars and Bars, the first Neil Young album that I owned

It contained a lot of my favorite songs including: Like a Hurricane, Hey Babe, Saddle up the Palomino, Bite the Bullet and, of course, Homegrown!

The album gets better every time you listen to it. A masterpiece.

The rest of the albums are great too.

21. Unsung Young albums
I also want to cast votes for "Freedom", "Sleeps With Angels", and "Mirrorball", part of his extended late 80's-to-mid 90's renaissance. "Freedom" was the first album since "Rust Never Sleeps" where he actually gave a damn again, and had emotion and inspiration to burn. I taped his appearance on SNL's season premiere (this was '89) and still have it, where he performed 'Rockin' In The Free World' and 'No More' (a nice segueway from 'The Needle and the Damage Done'). His performance was revelatory.

"Sleeps With Angels" was his 1994 tribute to Kurt Cobain. It is to Cobain what "Tonight's The Night" was to Danny Whitten and Bruce Barry. It has some vintage Young trademarks, such as the extended meandering-yet-cohesive soloing on 'Change Your Mind'.

"Mirrorball" had Pearl Jam fill in for Crazy Horse, and the results exceeded my considerable expectations. This was his last great album, although since then I have been heartened by "Greendale" and "Living With War", two strong efforts equal to the classics aforementioned.

But between 1989 and 1995, he had his best extended run since the decade which closed with "Rust Never Sleeps".

28. Yep that SNL appearance
was blistering, huh? The string grab and break at the end was indicative of the adrenaline pound. What a jolt.

He releases more new stuff today, year after year, than most younger musicians.

30. After the Gold Rush is my favorite, too
I'm not surprised to see Harvest win out on this poll, though; it's always been his most popular album.

31. I chose Harvest because it's flawless...
I almost went with Rust Never Sleeps but Crazy Horse is such an integral part of that record that to chalk it up as just a "Neil Young record" would be a disservice.

I almost wanted to respond with "Trans" just to be a wiseass.
