Anyone here have sugar gliders?
I have one. Her name is Biscuit. She has no ears because she got in the dryer and was "fluffed" and it burnt them off. She also got in the washer, but we found her on top of the clothes when we went to put the detergent in.

2. How bizarre! You let them roam free around the house?
Do they climb up on things then glide across the room?

6. I let her roam, yes.
But she is so chubby she doesn't glide anymore. She crashes when she tries to.

Biscuit has a problem with food: she eats EVERYTHING. I tried to put her on a balanced sugar glider diet once, but she threw the stuff all over the place. Now, I just feed her people food. Of course, she's into the sugary stuff, and I spoil her, too, so she's overweight. (But very, very happy.) So she doesn't roam far. She likes her cage although she enjoys riding around inside my shirt all day, too.

Sugar gliders are very social animals and they say that you should buy them in pairs, because they will die of loneliness, but Biscuit was alone when I got her and she bonded to me. She'll sit all day (if I let her) on her bottom and let me rub her belly. She's a bit of a hedonist.

3. I thought you were proposing oysters with sugar on them
...and I was going to tell you it's probably not a good idea.

4. Love them
But don't have them. I had a friend who bred them, and I just about swooned every time I visited him, such doll-babies!

7. They are sweet and very loveable animals!
They've got a very honed sense of self-esteem. You can't chase them around or they won't trust you. But once they trust you, that's it. You've got a little friend for life.

I left her in the care of a friend of mine for two weeks one time. She was sick when I came back. I put her in my shirt for a few days and let her sleep with me at night (she tried to sleep in my hair!) and she was just fine. I think she thinks I'm another sugar glider.

9. Isn't that cute!
Biscuit, unfortunately, doesn't like other gliders. We've tried, but she has problems sharing her food and is just, all around, jealous as hell.

I wish she wasn't like that, because I'd love to get some baby gliders.

I would have a couple of gliders. Biscuit must be pretty special if she prefers humans to other gliders!! :o

10. Sounds like she was nestled in your clothing...
...which got dropped into the washer or dryer before you realized she was in there. Bet you're checking your pockets more carefully these days! :)

I haven't had one myself, but I've seen them at swap meets. Definitely cute!

12. I think you might want to get another one.

They're very social creatures and, as I understand, prone to depression if alone. (Edit - saw your post upthread - guess yours is the except that proves the rule.)

Madrone and Maddy McCall also have them.
