What do you wear to a "fun" funeral?
As I posted the other day, a friend died far too young. He was from New Orleans, and the funeral is tomorrow. There'll be a service, then a jazz-band cortege about a mile down to the bar he occasionally worked at, where there'll be a big party/fundraiser for his wife and baby.

So do I wear a typical black suit, or something more kicky?

1. Gray pants, black jacket, and a piano-key tie.
Nothing says "class" like a piano tie.

2. if you decide to go with the suit, how about a fancy tie?

If you can dig up or borrow one that displays one of the deceased's interests (sports, art, etc.)?

p.s. Blue-Jay beat me to it, with a specific tie suggestion!

3. The only funeral that my family/friends would consider 'fun,'
I'd have to wear a coffin to!

I don't have the faintest idea what is correct in your situation, but I think it's best to overdress when in doubt. If you don't find out for sure, then wear the suit...

7. yeah
that's what I was thinking. Better to be overdressed than under. but I suspect I may be one of the few people at this shindig who even owns a suit.

4. Just wear what he would expect from you.
A friend of mine died many moons ago and I went to the funeral dressed as I always dress. Dave would have wanted me to dress in punk rock gear.

5. Black Suit, No "Fun" Tie
You may, however, bring weapons appropriate to defending oneself from the undead.

10. There'll be lots of smiles tomorrow
and no small amount of tears.

He was a very popular, very friendly, very sweet man. And he'd be the last person on Earth to take even his own death seriously.

8. The person makes the clothes.
My Uniform for life: wife beater & board shorts. When I wear a suit, everyone that knows me just sees me wearing a wife beater and board shorts.
