17. Jobby-job answers.
1.) I work for a large monolithic coffee company.

2.) 7 1/2 months.

3.) No...I was until about a 1/2 month ago.

4.) I'm a barista, a coffee master, the retail expert for my store, a learning coach, and our resident tea guru. I also do everybody else's jobs so that my store will not cease to function. My manager does her job exceptionally well but as soon as she leaves people start looking to me for answers and tasking. I'm not the manager, I'm not the asst. manager, and I'm not a shift supervisor. Yet apparently, I'm in charge. (If my ASM asks me one more time how to do her job, I may throttle her.) I don't want to be in charge of a high-end coffee boutique. I had the offers to be a manager-trainee and a shift, I declined. I like the free time my job provides as it allows me time to pursue training in the field I actually want to be in. (Except that it doesn't because I'm the de-facto manager at just above minimum wage.)

5.) Fundraising/Development and eventually NPO management. Unlike most people in this field, I don't have a specific cause that I want to work for. Literacy, cultural arts, animal rights/welfare, environmental protection, and civil rights would all be causes I think I'd enjoy working for though.

23. I did radio. Radio has changed, and local DJs are being phased out.
I have no desire to go back to radio.

I'd like to do voiceovers for radio and TV ads. My husband says I have a great voice for cartoons, but I'd say getting ad work would be much more realistic. :D

42. Yummy! Good luck with your job hunt! Here are my answers:
1) Do you work for others or are you self-employed?

I work for the guy who owns the Minnesota Timberwolves, but I work for the printing company he founded, not for the NBA side of his business. We're the folks on whose backs he built the fortune that allowed him to buy a bunch of overpaid underperformers.

2) How long have you worked where you do?

About 12 years total; used to be a production worker back in the college days; now in an admin position in one of the smaller companies in his empire.

3) Are you happy working there?

In some ways, yes. I love the people, and I like many aspect of my job, but I feel very underutilized, and most folks in the organization are grossly underpaid.

4) What do you do there?

HR generalist stuff mostly

5) What would you rather be doing instead?

I am working toward my goal of finding my dream position:
"Corporate Conscience; Devil's Advocate; Passionate Provider of Excellence in Training and Development, from Direction to Design to Delivery."

3) Are you happy working there?

Immensely.

4) What do you do there?

Make them thankful on a daily basis that they hired me.

5) What would you rather be doing instead?

44. Mine:
1) Do you work for others or are you self-employed?
Work for others.

2) How long have you worked where you do?
Been at my present company since October '06. Been doing this type of work for 17 years.

3) Are you happy working there?
Meh. My boss is a good guy, and I work out of my home, which I love. But I'm getting burned out on what I do.

4) What do you do there?
I am a vocational rehab counselor. I deal with people who were injured on the job. I assess their ability to work, based on the results of their injuries. If they cannot return to anything they already know how to do, I write retraining plans for them.

5) What would you rather be doing instead?
I'd rather be a florist. I have a natural talent for it. I have made the first move toward doing this, by getting business cards done. My daughter's wedding photographer has graciously agreed to let me use the photos she took of the flowers I did for the wedding on my still-to-be-designed website, and still-to-be-designed brochures. The pictures aren't done yet, so I have to wait for that.
