And it's a striking contrast to the attitude of most people I know who watch it and whose (never-quite-articulated) reasoning is along the lines of "I don't want to bother to learn about Real Issue X, so I'll immerse myself in this show instead."

It's the people who deliberatly switch off their awareness that annoy me. But if someone just wants to take a break from the constant horrors of Bush's regime, then I say go for it.

Hell, it's not as though every minute of my day is spent in intensive research and investigation...
