Have TV commercials gotten more dumb?
I hear my kids singing along with some really stupid jingles but them I remember that we used to have the Tidy Bowl man...and Charlie the tuna. What silly commercials do you remember from your youth?

2. Sucrets: "Barbara, you up?"
My throat is sore, I got a headache.

I always hated that guy for waking his wife up. I mean seriously, get up and go get some medicine yourself. What a wimp. She just looks miserable when he wakes her too. Then the next scene she is wide awake while he is sleeping like a baby.

23. My mother LOATHED that commercial
Every time it came on, she'd start grumbling at the TV. LOL

3. Where's the beef?
Mikey likes it!

I can picture other ones in my head but can't think of any lines from them. All the commercials that ran during Saturday morning cartoons -- back when Saturday morning cartoons still existed.

5. Well, this one was pretty silly:

"Oh, I love to be an Oscar Mayer wiener
That is what I'd Truly like to be
'Cause if I were an Oscar Mayer wiener
Ev'ryone would be in love with me!"

6. Local probably, but ubiquitous in Chicago: 588-2-Three-Hundred...Empire!
Actually I think commercials are diverging right now. There are really smart, really clever, really hilarious commercials that sometimes I find myself watching because they are so well done. Then there are the rest, which by and large are so stupid they make my brain hurt.

7. The one for some deodorant
Ban, maybe? Where the guy open his medicine chest at the same time the neighbor does and they see each other and he yells for his wife, "MONA!"

Even as a kid I wondered about that.

12. The Right Guard commercial where two bathrooms share the same medicine cabinet.
That one was pretty funny. Early 1970s I think.

Did neighbors ever REALLY share medicine cabinets? That must have been a lot of fun.

14. Yeah, they were always pretty dumb
The one that sticks out as the absolute dumbest to me was the "Ring around the collar!"

"Those dirty rings! You try scrubbing them out, soaking them out, still... ring around the collar!"

And naturally, I remember the whole thing. :banghead:

17. Close....TV itself is dumber.
More cable channels = a tighter race to the lowest common denominator.
