I GOT IT!!!!
I have been house hunting for months, and searching for victorian homes, specifically.

Tonight, we finished signing the contract. :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

17. What color are you going to paint it?
I think the shade of blue and the trim are adorable; I really love slate blue, though. Is the roof in good condition?

That is an absolutely gorgeous house, congrats to you. :toast:

23. The roof is slate, and in good condition. It looks discolored
in this picture though. I am going to leave her blue for now. She was pink. Eventually, I wil paint it a golden sand color with rust and slate blue accents. With all the trim and accents painted blue as well as the house, you don't really get to see all the little accent dots and such.

Thanks for the good wishes. Mr. MB is having to contain himself as he is still working.

26. Besides the red, all the trim throughout the house is a dark brown
paint, and we are going to change all that to white, as well as the shutters and use accents on the shadow boxes under all of the windows.

All the windows in the house have the interior shutters too.

and remove all the wallpaper too

37. that is stunning
what a pretty room. I love it.

What about the pale yellow in that room, are you keeping that? I can't imagine the exterior being pink...there is an artsy community of old victorians in my hometown and many of them are painted colors like pink and purple with darker trim. In that neighborhood it looks fine but standing alone or on a row of white and similarly nondescript houses it might be kind of garish.

25. Here's mine

Mine was a rent house for years before we bought it, so everything was in poor condition. Yours looks like it's in great shape.

You almost have to own a Vic to appreciate how wonderful it is. Friends only see the upkeep and expenses. Old houses become part of you. You really grow to love them.

Buy electric blankets!!!! :)

38. How beautiful.
Luckily, it is steam heat and there is at least one radiator in every room. I used to live in an 1860 farmhouse with no heat on the second floor. Thankfully, the dog liked to sleep under the covers too!

The sellers have done ALOT of work on the house. The basically have just the finishing touches left, and I get to do that part.

My husband was apprehensive about the entire old house thing. Once I got out of old farm and into a new townhouse, I just wanted my farm back.

Edited on Mon Apr-02-07 07:15 PM by malta blue
right now our 1 car garage is stuffed to the gills with 15 cases of wine, along with tons of storage bins. Then there are the 25 cases of "the good stuff" he left behind in Cali so that it would be stable. Now with this house, there is actually a small room in the cellar which he is going to convert into a full blown "look at all my wine" cellar.

Wish you could come join us for a glass!

MrShine doesn't drink, but I do, so whenever I open a bottle of wine it takes a while to get through it, unless we have company or it's the holidays.

I DO love a good glass of wine, though. I'm not snobby about it, I just don't drink the cheap shit if I can help it.

Life is too short for THAT! :D

61. Life is too short to drink bad wine...but hey
we are drinking a wine that retails for $6 a bottle as our everyday wine, and it is just right for a simple dinner. Now, with my husband and his crazy cooking fits - we always have to have several bottles of every varietal available, just in case.

BTW - you do use the wine gas right? That way an open bottle will last longer and you don't have to waste any....

it's supposed to do the same sort of thing, I think. I don't know too much about the wine gas, truthfully. Isn't it in some sort of pressurized can? Nothing worse than wasted GOOD wine, you're right...

I feel blessed to finally find a house that I love (and not get outbid on it).

The upstairs is like a maze, and the attic is even finished as a playroom!

The kitchen needs help:

BUT - it has this killer sink:

I can live with the floor for a while, but the wallpaper must go - oh and the faux copper ceiling too.

67. That sink is awesome
It would look great with an older looking faucet too- but that looks like the new "pull out" model and those things are SO convenient. I think the kitchen has great bones. But I definitely get the thing about the wallpaper- I hate wallpaper!!
Especially taking it down.

HINT: Use a wallpaper scorer and then spray a 50/50 mixture of HOT water and fabric (like downy) softener.
The wallpaper will come right off.
