Neil Diamond: feh!
Edited on Mon Jan-12-04 12:26 PM by NightTrain
As you may know, my workplace plays a godawful Lite Rock station all goddamned day. A little while ago, I was unlucky enough to have heard them play Neil Diamond's "I Am...I Said," whose refrain has to be one of the stupidest ever written! To wit....

I am, I said
to no one there.
But no one replied at all,
not even the chair.

Now let me get this straight: Diamond found it worth noting that the chair didn't reply to him? Do the man's word usually elicit a response from the living-room furniture? Or is Neil Diamond just a hack who couldn't write a good shopping list?

Perhaps I'm being too hard on the man. Maybe I need to turn on my heartlight and get some love on the rocks from Cracklin' Rosie or Sweet Caroline. :puke:

It's VERY funny.

was 8. I don't care if it's cheesy...it's a tearjerker. :(

20. The book is a result of a survey Barry did.
With the warning, introduction, survey results and credits, only 94 pages. But it is hilarious.

13. Do you mean Dave Barry's " Book of Bad Songs" ?
Edited on Mon Jan-12-04 12:40 PM by Kerryfan
It is a scream. My favorite is: A Horse With No Name. You are in a desert. You got nothin' else to do. NAME THE FREAKEN' HORSE.

This (booklet really) is so funny, I keep it handy just to pick up when I want to laugh out loud.

8. Chairs are often mentioned in pop hits of the 60s, 70s, and 80s...
1980s, Billy Jean by Michael Jackson, "But the chair is not my son..."

1970s, I Am I Said by Neil Diamond, "Not one heard at all, not even the chair..."

1960s, Chairs by the Association, "Chairs is the word I use to describe, all the feeling that I have hiding here for you inside..."

I think it's some kind of musical tradition.

17. That's "The *kid* is not my son."

I bought THRILLER on vinyl 20 years ago. It included a lyric sheet.

22. Wow, for 20 years, I thought he was saying the chair was not his son
I always wondered what he meant by that, but I would not put it past Michael to try to breed himself with a piece of furniture.

12. Hot & Cold, NightTrain
Some stuff of his i really liked. (Souliman, Brother Love, Cherry Cherry)

Other stuff i loathed. (Forever in Bluejeans! Coming To America! Ack!)

The one you picked is between those, for me. Don't hate it, don't really like it either.

18. Actually the lyric says. . .
No one HEARD at all, not replied.

Not that a chair can hear, but let's be accurate when discussing cheese master singers :)
