Sometimes the juxtapostion of people and technology can be a little jarring to me. Take, for instance, this evening.
I'm sitting at a corner table in a restaurant with free Wi Fi hosting and whileing away my time on DU. In the side door comes an indian family: grandma with a long grey pigtail and glasses, toddler in the stroller, youngish mom, and dad. I look up briefly because of the commotion of coming in the door then I return to my screen. They order their food and sit an a booth kinda catty corner from me.
Sometime later, I look up and see a laptop out on the table. Not unusual in this place. Then I notice that the laptop has a set of headphones attached. Then I notice that the headphones are attached to GRANDMA!! She's banging away at her keyboard like the rest of us geeks. We exchanged glances of understanding at our mutual addiction.
When I got up to visit the ladies', I glanced at her screen. She was firing up YouTube! :-)
