Whitacre D_WI's profile in his hometown paper!
http://tinyurl.com/2kj6p

Vince Whitacre got an early taste of how it feels to buck the political tides and win.

In 1988, as a St. Bernard School eighth-grader, Whitacre portrayed Mike Dukakis in a mock presidential debate. After Whitacre’s performance, the mock Dukakis won the school poll, doing much better than the real Dukakis, who polled 46 percent of the national vote against George H.W. Bush.

Whitacre, 28, hopes that ability to defy the political conventional wisdom will recur in 2004, as he tries to unseat U.S. Rep. F. James Sensenbrenner Jr., who is in his 12th term serving Wisconsin’s fifth district. Springfield native Whitacre, who now lives in Waukesha, Wis., acknowledges he faces an uphill battle.

“To win, we have to work to change people’s expectations,” Whitacre said in a recent telephone interview. “We (Democrats) haven’t run a credible challenge to Jim Sensenbrenner for over a decade.

“My task is to convince the voters I can win and can better represent their interests.”
(snip)

Good press, I think. It's out of the district, but still.

1. Has he been to the listening sessions in his district that
Russ Feingold conducts once a year?

3. Not recently. But we both had a nice chat with Sen. Feingold
a couple of months ago at a Democratic party event.

Good for you, I wish you all the luck in the world getting that asshat Sensenbrenner OOT of there. One question for the Mrs...(whispers)

Is Russ Feingold a babe in person, or is he just astoundingly telegenic? :D

15. Russ on TV = Russ in person
I've never found him to be particularly babe-like, but to each his/her own.

IIRC, both he and Sen. Kohl seemed a lot shorter in person. (Then again, I'm 5'2", so I'm not the best judge of height.)

16. Sen. Kohl is quite short.
He's like a hobbit. Hobbits are very popular nowadays; hopefully that popularity will carry over until 2006 and bring him yet another resounding victory!

18. Kohl NEVER answers or acknowledges my emails or letters
I am disappointed in him. Please don't model your campaign on him.

2. Go Vince!
That's a nice piece. Maybe his official web site should link to the article, if possible. :-)

4. He will.
He's busy right now, but he will when he gets a chance.
(I'm less busy, so I'm on posting duty.)

6. Yep. Today's. We got a call ay 5:30 a.m. from my father-in-law
indicating such. (You can imagine how happy I was about that.)
I think they're taking care of copies out there. Thanks, though.

9. Nice article
Except they left out the part about Sensenbrenner being a complete tool.:D

I'm not very familiar with contribution regulations; can people outside of WI contribute to Vince's campaign? If so, hopefully this article will be read by some people who remember Vince, & are willing to contribute.

11. I think they took the part about Sensenbrenner being a tool as a given.
And yes, any U.S. citizen or permanent resident over the age of 18 may contribute his or her personal funds to my campaign, up to $2,000 per election cycle.

So here's hoping some Springfield dough starts a-rollin' in!

13. And the SCOTUS did throw out the prohibition against minors contributing
So we'll probably revise that policy soon, too.

(Federal contractors, labor unions and national banks are still verboten, though. Contributions are not tax-deductible. Thought I'd point that out, lest the FEC swing its hammer down on our little movement.)

17. As a resident of this VERY republican district, heres to courage!
This is the district that is the home to the Bradley Foundation...the money behind the creation of the PNAC.

I think that Waukesha may have been republican since BEFORE the creation of the party in Michigan.

I am hoping you will work to restore funding for Fox River rehabilitation as it was under Gaylord Nelson's Model Rivers Project. The headwaters is in the district you will represent. Frame Park in Waukesha would be a nice backdrop to river friendly comments.
