I ate Unagi tonight for the first time...

I was at a friend's house, and he was eating sushi. I don't really eat sushi, but being a foodie, I gotta be fearless. I asked what it was...Caterpillar Roll. I asked what was in it, he didn't know. He said "Ummm, Caterpillar?" and went :shrug:

So, I picked it up, sniffed it thoroughly (I smell everything I eat or drink, habit).

I popped it in my mouth and ate it. Not bad, spicy, yummy. Definitely containing a clam textured-like substance. Interesting.

Came home, googled, and bam! it was eel. :o

Ok, I guess I don't mind eel! yay! :bounce:

ps- He thought it was weird when I said that if it really was caterpillars, I still would have eaten it :shrug:

3. there are half a dozen good Japanese restaurants and groceries...

...within a few miles of my house, and I'm ashamed to say that I've become utterly sushi jaded. I can buy unagi, tobiko, toro, hamachi, etc at my local grocery store. If you ever find yourself on the west coast you really owe yourself a good sushi feed.

14. Oh, Unagi!

I love eel.

We've got Morimoto here in Philly and their sushi is the best. Service sucks, but the food is great. I'll even eat tofu there and I HATE tofu!

17. Unagi is really good. I like the flavor, but when I'm eating sushi

I like the firm texture of fish like salmon or tuna, whereas the eel has a flakier texture.
If the unagi is freshly made and slightly warm, then it is delicious.
I LOVE sushi with the passion of 10,000 burning suns.
