Hey! How did you find DU? When did you find DU?
Here's how I found DU:

Back in February 2003,a friend sent me a link to veteransforpeace.org, which had a link to takebackthemedia.com, which had a link to DU.

I lurked around for about a month before posting my first contribution, and donated in September or October of 2003.

How did you come across this great, extended family of heroes we call Democraticunderground.com?

7. I was feeling alienated in 2002 by all the rabid conservatism
and pro-war madness in the media. I couldn't find any leftist opinions anywhere. I didn't even have a computer! I went to the library and looked up "liberal voice" and up came a bunch of RW sites promoting hate, and particularly hatred of this one site, democraticunderground.com. I was intrigued, checked it out, and got hooked. I was going to the library and reading for four hours a day...finally my wife bought us an eMac.

Started posting in March of 2003, right during the Iraq war hysteria, and haven't stopped. I'm addicted...there's no much to read here, it's overwhelming sometimes, but always worth it.

I was at work one day... sometime in late 2001, and someone was listening to Rush Limbaugh. I was so disgusted by the hypocrisy of Limbaugh's arguments, I decided to type in hypocrites.com and see if it dealt with guys like Limbaugh. It did. Does, I mean. Very cool site, btw.

11. My husband found DU
Summer 2002, but I didn't sign up until November 2002 after a couple of months of lurking.

But now he's banned because he'd read my husband-complaining lounge posts and get pissed at me. I said, "Then who else am I supposed to complain to?" (He doesn't like me to share our "personal business" with people we know in our lives more. Nevermind the ego big enough to think I talk about nothing else but him. :eyes: ) I just kept coming and he switched departments at work and is now too busy to check up on me there anymore.

He only has a postcount of 20 or so here anyway and wasn't really into posting. Now if he wants stuff, he goes to Buzzflash.

19. Linked from the message board from Axis of Justice
AoJ is an organization formed by tom morello of audioslave and Serj Tankinin of System of a Down. they do activisim and whatnot, they lead a group of protesters in a few antiwar marches. but they are more focused on domestic issues, labor, poverty, whatnot, i remember when they made it illegal to feed homeless in santa monica, they led about 200 people handing out handmade sandwiches they helped make themselves.

they dont moderate thier boards though, so i only go there when i want a full out brawl. the repukes will dissregard facts so it doesnt matter if you have them or not, the board is pretty evenly split between liberal and conservatives. and you make enemies and allies quickly.

right after the chimp started squatting in the WH. I was about to go crazy because I need to vent to other people who felt the same way as myself. I first joined some groups on Yahoo and through them found out about the DU. I joined in about February but just lurked and didn't begin posting till later in the Spring because at first there was a lot of freepers posting and I just couldn't deal with them.

22. Mid-2001
It was a roundabout way, one step at a time.

A few days after the Supreme Court selected Dubya, in December 2000, I was so outraged and despondent -- really reeling -- that I had to seek out some release, at least by hearing other people similarly outraged.

One night I was absently fumbling around with a radio and I decided to see if Ray Taliferro was still on KGO (810 AM) out of San Francisco. I hadn't listened to him in nearly 20 years (I'd been out of the country for a lengthy period). To my surprise, Taliaferro was on -- and he was in fine form just whaling on the Supreme Court decision and the Stolen Election. All the callers were similarly outraged.

I began listening to Taliaferro every night. After a couple of months, I started tuning in to Bernie Ward, another firebrand liberal, who comes on just before Taliaferro on the same station.

Bernie Ward would occasionally mention mediawhoresonline.com, and when I finally got access to a computer (parents bought one), I went to MWO. MWO linked me to DU. This was sometime in the middle of 2001. It was one step at a time.

This is sort of embarassing, but I lurked at DU for two and a half years, before finally registering a few days ago.

28. About a month after the Selection,
my husband was ranting about all the right-wing sites, and said, "there HAS to be something out there for Democrats and moderates!" and went on a mission to find them. He found Buzzflash and Democrats.com, and from there, found DU in February 2001. He started reading me the Top Ten Conservative Idiots. In March, I started going onto the site to read the Top Ten myself every Monday, then saw a thread entitled "Monty Pythoning the Junta." I couldn't resist that, registered my username and have been here since early April 2001.

34. I found DU in August 2002. I was banned from another site {SC}
along with several other members for discussion of conspiracy theory like the possibility of a coup of some kind, Bush/Nazi connections, secret societies, mind control, PNAC, RPMA/RMA, etc. and also for supporting Dennis Kucinich.

All of us refugees are still here thanks to a simple rule-based forums section that does allow for CT discussion {not space aliens or other far-out stuff since we have documented topics with hidden history-it's already bad enough as it is}.

I'm happy to be a contributing member of this great American political website-the very best IMHO.

I learn something useful here everyday and have even made a few friends along the way.

With the powerful research posted and archived here isn't it amazing that Bush is still sitting in the WH and not in a Halliburton Corrections facility along with the rest of BFEE? It will catch up to them sooner or later, there are a number of powerful folks here, patriotic Americans and democracy loving folks from elsewhere that are helping to take our country back.

Thanks, Skinner!

i went crazy, off the wall nuttsy like a freed sardine... i called everybody a freedom crushing neo-con... i did not want to end up some middle of the road tissue in a pre-teen girls bra trying to look more like something i am not... i watched this board go from some f*cking off the wall psycho water ballon throwing fest into a mild mannered "discussion board"... the good old days when i knew just about every poster's name and could defile them in a note-worthy way...

well... then i got a brain tumor and all the steam came out of the kettle when they drilled a hole in my head... i'm still sitting on the fire hoping to regain some of that piss and vinegar and start hurling some ignited dirt upon my fellow keyboard intellectuals... get a little high-test fuel on debate and to hell with this middle of the road tissue in a pre-teen girls bra... trying so hard to be something this board is not...

by the way i heard about DU from the mike malloy show back in 2001... many blessings...
