Need ideas to get mind off broken leg
after six weeks of hobbling around, since last Tuesday have two to thee months in a cast. Initial x-rays didn't show the break, so I had been going to the gym, etc. etc.

2. Bummer.
Since most of your activities are going to be relegated to sedentary ones, off the top of my head I'd suggest:

Reading
Writing, catch up on old correspondence
Posting on DU :D
Watching TV, movies, whatever
Listening to music

Hang in there, poli speak!

4. I had a tib-fib plateau break a couple of years ago...
I'm sorry to hear about your leg.

I had a pretty bad break several years ago...had to have surgery to put my knee back together, and then off of it for three months.

The only advice I can give you is to stay in contact with people...don't isolate yourself while you heal.

I worked from home during my recupe--and I became depressed from being so isolated and inside all the time. That was the worst part of the whole thing...the isolation. Just watch out for depression and be prepared to do whatever you need to do to fight it.

A couple of other things...

I rented a wheel chair at home so that I could move around easier and use both of my hands to do stuff instead of being on crutches and having my hands being tied up with the crutches. It made it easier to cook for myself and my son, carry plates, fix drinks, and even clean a little bit.

Ok, this is going to sound silly, but: I got a potty lifter thing...one of those things that fits on the toilet so that you don't have to work so hard to get off and on the potty. That was a MAJOR lifesaver, after having fallen off the toilet a time or two while either sitting or standing. They aren't that expensive, and are worth every penny.

Best wishes in your recuperation. If you need an ear, I'm only a PM away.
